What to do with bm dresses?

Do you keep them forever?

Donate them?

Hold on to them hoping to have an event to wear it again?

Has a bride ever asked you what you did with the dress?  Have you told them that you've pitched it?

I really want to get rid of the clutter but feel like it would hurt the brides feelings if she found out.  Thoughts?

Re: What to do with bm dresses?

  • I'm seeing BM and thinking...have you tried washing them?

If it's something I thought I would wear again, I'd probably hold on to it.  Otherwise I'd donate it.

  • I've only been a BM two times and once was when I was 8 months pregnant.  Definitely not wearing that one again.  haha.  Anyway, I've kept them.  I'll probably turn them over to my mom at some point to add to her collection of prom and formal dresses that she'll convert into dress up clothes for her grandchildren someday.
  • I have some old dresses I'm hoping to sell at a consignment shop or pawn shop. They're just collecting dust.

I say, unless the bride paid for the dress, you shouldn't worry about their feelings. I've never had a bride ask me about a dress... really, unless it's a little black dress they're delusional if they think you'll wear it again.

  • I only have one. Until I got pregnant, I was going to do some minor alterations and just re-wear as a fun summer glam dress. Now I'll just donate it. I don't think my friend would care at all, and honestly, I think it's  unreasonable to expect someone to keep a bridesmaid's dress.

  • I donated a bunch a few years ago.  I found one a few weeks ago that I took to a consignment shop.  I got $14 for my $160 dress.  I suppose it was lunch out, but I felt like I probably could have gotten the $40 it was sold for on CL by myself.
  • I sold one on ebay (it was a current color still for davids bridal) and the others are still floating around. I feel funny getting rid of them. Like pp said maybe fun dressup clothes one day for your LOs?!

  • I have all my old BM dresses/formal dresses at my parent's house.  I'm keeping them in case we have a little girl and she wants to play dress upBig Smile.  If not then they"ll go into a costume box at my mom's for grandkids.
