I just found out I'm pregnant and had two PE's in July of 2009 because of FVL. So far I've seen so many moms out there who've m/c multiple times and I'm terrified that I'll have one as well. I'm curious how many mommies out there have or have not m/c that also have FVL (either to ease my tensions or to make me aware of the probability).[Poll]
Re: FVL and m/c
Heterozygous or homozygous? That makes a big difference in Factor V Leiden!
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
I didn't have a miscarriage but did develop preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome which resulted in the loss of my first baby at 24 weeks...but I am now 36 weeks pregnant with number 2 and doing great on Lovenox...that makes a huge difference!
I had two miscarriages and delivered a stillborn at 28 weeks. It wasn't until after the autopsy of my son, they discovered I had FVL. I was on Lovenox for my last pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby boy. I'm pregnant now and on Lovenox again, so far so good.
Good luck with your pregnancy!!
Congrats on your pregnancy! I, like you, knew about my FVL before I became pregnant. I think, unfortunately, that people with undiagnosed clotting disorders are more likely to miscarry than those who know about their existing problems. I always think how lucky I am that my doctors are aware of how to treat FVL in pregnancy, rather than finding out the hard way.
I had a referral to a perinatologist (high risk OB) to perscribe blood thinners, which I've been on since about 12 weeks. I get a few more growth ultrasounds than a non-high risk pregnancy, but otherwise things have been going great. Keep your chin up, try not to Google too much, and trust your doctors! Good luck!
I am FVL hetero and had one miscarriage and one uneventful full term pregnancy before diagnosis.
Your numbers might be a bit skewed, because if you are on thinners with FVL, the risk of loss is reduced. Congrats on your pregnancy!
Most of the people I've heard from have has m/c's before being diagnosed with FVL. At least you know going in, so they can start treatment early!
I did have a m/c, however they don't think it was related to FVL, just b/c of how early it was--they consider it a chemical pregnancy.
diagnosed with heterozygous Factor V Leiden 2008; m/c 11/09 @ 5 1/2 wks; m/c 5/10 @ 4 1/2 wks; RLP testing done, diagnosed with antiphospholipid syn. and low progesterone; 7/10 started on Heparin injections & progesterone supps @ 3 dpo, BFP 8/9/10!!!
