Crap - what do I need to pack for LO?

So I was just reading everyone's "to do lists" a few posts down, and people mentioned LOs bag is packed.  What do you pack for said LO?  I threw two outfits into my bag for LO (team green - my sisters will be hitting the mall for the "going home outfit" once the gender is identified), which I thought was a "just in case" type of thing.  What are you all packing?

PS, I am a second time mom, repeat c/s Friday.  I'm wayyyy ill prepared.  DH and I also can't agree on a name, or even a list of potential names.  Yeah, we are screwed.

I am not packing anything for little one except something to wear on the way home.

Our child is nameless too. Drives me crazy.

  • I know...I still have a fairly long way to go, but I started packing his bag. I had no idea what to pack so I packed one newborn outfit, one 0-3 months (incase he's on the larger side), a pair of socks, booties, a hat, a bib, and one receiving blanket.

  • I'm not bringing anything except an outfit to wear home.  They give you everything you need at the hospital.

Bar tab = $156,000, Bus to Foxwoods = $0, Puking in the Stanley Cup = Priceless

  • This is what was suggested by my hospital. I doubt you will need much at all as the hospital provides everything for you while you are there. If you want special things like outfits for pictures, going home, boppy, etc. you can bring those items. Otherwise the hospital gives you what you need.

Outfit for your baby's first picture

Car seat in car (Make sure to learn how to use it before the baby is born.) Going-home outfit: undershirt, gown or sleeper, cap Blanket or bunting for cool or cold weather

  • I packed onsies and cute sleepers (we're not doing a "fancy" coming home outfit).  At our class they said to pack baby finger nail clippers if you wanted to clip LOs nails b/c they do not supply them...they will however supply a nail file b/c it is safer...

Good luck with coming up wih a name!  :)

  • OK, good!  I got a little panic stricken that I was missing something.  I did pack a boppy and a blanket, too (forgot about that).  Other than that, if the hospital doesn't have it I guess I won't need it.  Although I should add my Baby Name Wizard book to the bag!!

Fun fact:  I don't do nails!  DD is nearly 6 and I've never cut her nails.  That is all DHs job.  Freaks me out.

  • I will pack (probably the night before my scheduled c/s cause that is how I roll):

Wipes: my hospital does not provide wipes (they do gauze and water) and I am not trying to get evil black baby tar (meconium) off my baby's butt with anything but some decent wipes.

Pacifiers: my hospital does not provide them (I BF, but don't believe in nipple confusion so pacifiers are not an issue for me and I want one in case we need it).

My swaddlers: the hospital provides them, but I prefer my fancy beautiful muslin ones because I'm a snob...Stick out tongue

Other than that I won't be packing anything for little one (DH will be purchasing a going home outfit after baby is born as we are team green).

  • The only I can add is that I packed a pair of those little "don't claw your own eyes out" mittens for the baby. I don't know if the hospital provides those and since the outfit I packed doesn't have hand covers, I wanted to be safe.

Oh!  That's a great idea to pack the baby book to get the prints directly in there!

This is what I thought, but found out not to be true.  I wish I had brought my breast pump.  I had an unplanned c section so was in the hosptial longer than expected.  I wish I had brought my breast pump.  LO had trouble latching, so has lost weigt and they fed him some formula (DH freaked out and okay it...long emotional story).  They only gave him less than 10 ml and I made them use a syringe instead of a bottle to avoid nipple confusion, but if I had had my pump, I could have just pumped and fed him the extra milk he needed that way.

Just something to think about.  Even if you leave it in the car for a just in case.

If you need a pump in the hospital they should be able to provide you a hospital grade pump.  It is something you should check with your hospital on, but I wouldn't drag my pump to the hospital if they are willing to provide you with one while you are there if you need one.

We're packing our own wipes too.  Our hospital provides these sheets that feel like paper and you get them wet.  They were a PITA.  We'll do the pacifier as well and bring our own swaddling blanket because I'm picking about that.  Other than that I have a onsie, sleeper and receiving blanket for going home.  And I'll be bringingn a piece of scrapbook paper for the footprints to put in DS' baby book (did the same for DD).
