Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Need opinions please! WWYD? Re: TTC

There was a post similar to this a page or so back.  But this is my life and a different situation so I am asking you all to weigh in. Smile

DH and I decided to begin TTC #2 next month.  DS is 17 months right now and I am turning 34 this fall.  It took us 12 months to conceive DS.  DS was a winter baby and, in a perfect world, we don't want to go through that again (he was sick...a lot. Even hospitalized for a week b/c of winter illness).  Our timing for TTC #2 is based on the time of year and my age.  Though we know we don't really have control of when it actually happens.  Well, as it stands, I will likely be losing my job in the fall.  I have started to look elsewhere, but you just never know.  Any separation $ for work would take me to the end of the year (pay-wise). But if I get a new job and TTC doesn't take us long, I wouldn't be covered under FMLA when it's time for the birth.

DS has a good job, but right now it's contract and not full-time. so no benefits. I have the benefits.  Without the COBRA payments, we could be fine on DH's salary for a while if need be.  He also may get a full time job with the Co. he is contracting for sometime this year and then have benefits.

Knowing it took 12 months the firs time and given the job situation, WWYD? TTC or wait? TIA!

  • I would ttc now since you want to! Everything else will work its way out somehow.  Good luck!

I agree with this. Everything will work out in some way.

  • I say you TTC. It's hard to wait for the exact right time and like you said, you never know how long it will take so things could be worked out by then...and you will definitely get it worked out when you're under a 9-month time constraint. :)
  • I'd start looking for a new job.  No need to hang around and wait to get laid off.   If I'm reading this right, you are saying that you can survive on his salary WITHOUT the COBRA, well, if you are pregnant you would need the COBRA, so how would that work?  I say, find a new job, then try.
  • Well, it took us a year for DS, but we got pregnant on our first try this time.

Yes, I am looking.  I mentioned that in the OP.  We can live comfortably on his salary without paying COBRA.  We can still live on his salary and pay COBRA, but it would be much tighter.  Also, there is a chance he will be going full-time with his current company and would be eligible for benefits there.

Wow!  Congratualtions!  We have friends in the same situation.  We are just preparing either way and hope we are that lucky Smile
