Well, I registered this weekend and put a nice Chico high chair on my registery. When I told my mother, she said "Oh, you'll hate having a regular high chair! It's just going to take up space and piss you off!"
And then she insisted on buying me a high chair that sits on a regular seat at the dining room table. I guess it straps onto the chair? And you can use it later as a booster seat?
Please share your pros/cons about the regular high chair v. the table high chair.
Re: Space Saver High Chair?
I hated having TWO highchairs but if I had to get just one, I wouldn't mind too much. I heard bad things about that particular chair you mentioned though. We now have the Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe booster seats and I LOVE them! Soooo much less space!

I love our Fisher Price Space saver high chair.
Pro: fits smaller children better, and takes up less space and it cleans up really easily. It is also less conspicuous in a house that has baby stuff taking over.
Con: you can't move it around very easily (because the chair is heavy). we do have a full size one that has wheels and I can push it around easier but it is so big that my DS just ends up slouching and eating the seat belt rather than paying attention to the task at hand and I rarely have to move it around much so we just put it away and don't use it.
We have 2 FP Space Savers. I love them but find that cleaning the straps sucks.
I just took them off and threw them in the washing machine and they came out great
I personally have to agree w/ your mom
We have the FP Space saver and I love it! It does everything a regular high chair does but I think it looks much nicer since it's not this big huge plastic thing in the corner of your kitchen
But seriously, it reclines (huge need!) has a tray you can fit in most dishwashers... really it's everything a regular high chair is but on your regular kitchen chairs.
I would say the only downfall is that it's not on wheels.. but rarely do I find I need the wheels. The fact that it looks so much nicer is worth it. FWIW, we don't need a "space saver", we just really liked it.
As far as a booster seat, it depends on your table. Our table is a little low w/ a bar across the underneath ledge of the table and so we couldn't pull the Space Saver up close enough to the table for it to be used as a booster seat. But really by that point, DD1 was ready for a normal booster seat and DD2 was on her way anyway
And you really can't beat the price!

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I just added the FP space saver to the registry and called mom to tell her that most of the ladies on this baby board gave it a thumbs up. She was happy about it. And it's the no. 1 seller on the BRU high chair product list. I guess if it ends up not working out, I can always pick up a high chair later.
btw..why do our moms have to be so overbearing and insistent about this baby stuff?!
Because they want to be helpful and offer their experience. In the case of my mom, she doesnt get a chance to offer insight very often because I am very independent. When it comes to babies she feels like she knows her stuff. I just take it in stride, and take bits and pieces she offers. But I try really hard to never make her feel like I don't appreciate it.
we have the same booster/highchair and it awesome... when she's big enough, we can pull her right to the table to eat with us, light and easy to take when traveling, EASY to clean after a messy meal [spray it down in the shower!]
