Fatigue - Anyway to control?

The latest symptom seems to be fatigue.  I was getting it every evening, around 7pm, but am getting a dose of it just now!

I feel out of breath, with what appears to be a hotflash of sorts, and feel very weak - need to lay down.  I also get shortness of breath.

Is this normal?

  • I'm not sure about the shortness of breath but the fatigue, absolutely!  I used to come home from work, take a nap, then start dinner.  You just get too tired to function.  Luckily, its just a phase!

  • But I'm not tired when the "episode" occurs!  I just had it... and it turned into m/s!  I guess that was the way of my body "releasing" whatever it is.

  • Yes the shortness of breath, and everything else is normal. I also had it during the first trimester. If you are concerned call your Dr, since you are having twins.

The fatigued subsided after the first trimester but it came back 2 weeks ago (I also have not been feeling wel) so the Dr ran a blood test to check my thyroid (i'm still waiting on the results). Everything you mentioned sounds normal but if it concerns you call the Dr.

  • yup, normal...and for me the shortness of breath didn't end until I delivered the babies.  Fatigue, well...that's still there :)

  • Sounds like we both should've stayed home today.  I also experience the shortness of breath and read that it is normal and it's only going to get worse as our lung capacity decreases due to the baby (and in your case, babies) taking up more space.  I did feel a lot of fatigue during first tri.  I still feel it once in a while if I don't get enough rest/sleep.  I also fall asleep much earlier than I used to. I used to stay up until midnight and now I have to be in bed by 10:00 and sometimes I fall asleep on the couch before that. Try to take a nap in the afternoons, especially, if you're not sleeping well at night.  You will get a burst of energy during 2nd tri, but there are days where you'll still feel very tired.
  • I had been napping when I got home from work, but last week I got a little burst of energy, which allowed me to do some house work and even cook... but did go to bed earlier, which I did like.

However, these spells are scary.  I am afraid I may faint (which I never have my entire life).  If it happens again, I'll call in the doctor, just for peace of mind.  I'm sure it is perfectly normal, but you know how it is... we panic.  LOL

  • I got that way for a while.  It got really bad when I would shower too.  I got so fatigued and would get sweaty in the shower I felt like I was going to faint.  It will pass - I promise.  My fatigue started getting better around 15 weeks.  The hotflashes didn't get better for me for another few weeks.

Yes, be careful!  I have read that the fatigue/dizziness/headaches/shortness of breath, etc., can all lead to fainting.  So take extra care and move slowly when you stand up, bend over, etc. so that you don't get too lightheaded or faint.  I haven't fainted, but I do get very lightheaded and my eyesight goes fuzzy for a few seconds if I bend over, get up too fast, etc.

  • yeah, i felt like that from the week before my bfp to the day i gave birth with sarah.  abby i was never fatigued, but with sarah, i felt like i was not going to make it another day!!

the plus?  i had TONS of energy the minute sarah was born!!

  • Totally normal. I don't have anything to add, but take it slow. I was terribly fatigued every day in 1st tri and would have no choice but to nap, but now in the 2nd tri it often doesn't hit me until it's too late. I'm starting to get shortness of breath more often now, too. I just try to move slow as much as possible.
  • I've experienced that as well.  Just drink lots of water, take lots of stretch breaks, and get plenty of rest.
