I have been reflecting a lot on my journey to get to where I am...about to have two boys! So I thought I would share my good luck charm story and see if anyone else has a story they wanna share!
Dh and I tried to get pregnant for over a year before I was FINALLY sent to a specialist and they diagnosed me with PCOS. Several rounds of clomid, two deployments and three IUI's later....
My friend who
had been trying for a whole two months got knocked up right away. She
said it was because of her necklace. She usually wore a plain silver
circle necklace but the chain broke. So she grabbed a random replacement
necklace from her jewelry box. It was a James Avery necklace her dad
got her years ago. She googled what it was called-- "Mother's Love".
Two days later she got a BFP. Well the next time she saw me she took
off her necklace and put it around my neck. She said it was a lucky
charm and she just *knew* it was my turn. I was skeptical but she said
"TAKE THE DAMN NECKLACE!"
Re: Good Luck Charms to get knocked up?
If only it were that easy to get knocked up, those of us with long-term infertility would be cured in a month. This reminds me of all those anecdotes people tell about "relax, and it will happen!" which makes us cringe. Because we know it just isn't true for people who truly have medical challenges to overcome.
I think having a positive attitude can't hurt and probably really does help, so having charms or other good luck talismans isn't a bad thing. But propagating the idea that a certain object has the power to do what nature and medical science cannot seems wrong. Having faith and hope is the key, so if wearing a certain necklace gives you that, more power to you! Glad to hear it worked out for you and good luck in the upcoming weeks!
i had this little baby bottle candle from a friend's baby shower - when we were doing our IUI to get pg the first time- we lit it and then had sex and blew it out afterwards - sort of as a joke.... and we got pg (we had sex the 2 nights after the 2 IUIs) It was our first clomid/IUI cycle.
we did the same the time we got pg with the twins. funny thing is that it took 2 cycles with the twins- the first cycle we didn't use the candle - and didn't get pg... 2nd cycle- used it, and it worked- x2!! We were TTC#2, took 2 cycles, and got 2 babies
that is a sweet story but a little too "just relax and it will happen" for me too. Infertility can't be treated by wearing a necklace. Hate to sound like a jerk but to me this kind of trivializes what some of us have been through. ;(
I'd say my good luck charm was a really awesome fertility specialist.
i'm going to say it was our lucky savings acct that paid for 2 ivfs!
I don't think it trivializes anything; we each have our own journey to motherhood, and each person's story is valid and worth sharing. She's not saying it would work for everyone, just her own interesting story.
That said, we didn't have a good luck charm (unless you count Clomid. And lots of prayer!
), but it's fun reading the other stories!
Too funny!
Our good luck charm must have been the wedding rings we were both wearing...got KU after being married for all of 12 hours
our TTC journey has been a tough one. 12 years.
but the cycle I did get pg with our twins..... I lit my prayer candle.. and instead of lighting my usual 1 candle....I lit 2 candles. (I usually save candle #2 for others/prayer requests, etc. of family and friends). 2 candles....and pg with 2 babies!
