? about LO in hosp room at nights...

A lot of people are saying to send him to the nursery at night to get rest but I'm wondering if it even makes sense for us.  I will be BFing him so if he wakes up crying to eat their going to bring him to me anyway.  What are you ladies doing or what are your thoughts?

Happy Mother's Day ladies!!!!

  • Just see how you feel. If you're happy with LO in the room, tell the nurse you'll keep him. But if you are tired and can't relax, send him to the nursery for an hour or so. Like you said, they'll bring him back if he wakes up and needs to try nursing. Just remind them you want to EBF.

  • I am going to play it by ear.  I am going to be bf'ing as well and have the same thought.  However, I don't know how well I will sleep having him in the room with me...I think I will just stare at him and listen to him.  So I am hoping I will be ok sending him to the nursery and getting at least a couple good hours of sleep at a time between feedings. Then again I might not want to let him out of my sight.

  • Zachary stayed in the room with us when he was born and it worked out really well for BFing.  Our hospital this time seems to be very pro-nursery, but I think that unless we are just totally exhausted we are going to keep the baby with us.  I had some supply issues last time and I want to be sure that I can BF as much as the baby wants to.
  • My hospital doesn't have a nursery anymore.  They are all about infant security and baby does not leave you or your designee.  If they take the baby anywhere either my husband or I will be there with her.  A new concept in my mind but I like it.

They didnt even mention me being able to send DD anywhere..I kept her right next to my bed and I was BF it was great..I dont think sending LO away at night if you want to nurse would be good.. Babies seem to eat on their time and I know that DD would eat stop then want to eat again in 15 minutes..and repeat sometimes.
  • We kept DD night 1 and sent her to the nursery night 2.  Having someone else watching her if she did wake up was nice, I think I slept more soundly.  I did wake up at ~4am night 2 wondering where she was.  Turned out DD had just woken up and they were doing her morning tests before bringing her in to nurse.

We even continued this trend at home where I would get the best sleep when I knew someone else was watching over DD.

We're gonna send her to the nursery and ask that they bring her to us to nurse.  We have to make sure they know NOT to give her a bottle or pacifier.

My mom said she told the nurses to give us a bottle of water if we were hungry during the night... I think that's ridiculous!!!

  • I was so against sending y boys to the nursery but it worked out best because I knew that I could close my eyes for a bit and still have soone watch them the entire time. They were both brought to me as soon as I asked them to be brought to eat or whatever or DH went to get them :)
  • Azrayla....LOVE her NB pic!!!

My hospital has a nursery that you can use if you want, but they encourage you to keep baby with you as much as you can. I can tell you from an overnight trip for observation a couple of months ago...sleep just isn't happening with or without babies in the room. Nurses are in and out every other minute checking your BP and temp and all that so I figured if I am not getting any sleep I might as well stare at my kids. If I start to lose my sh** then yeah, nurses can play baby sitters for a while. :)

  • my hospital def brings them back in when they even think he might be hungry.  DS1 was actually in the nursery quite a bit because I was not able to get out of bed to get him and it just made me sad to have to see him squirming and not be able to get to him.  Once I even woke up to the nurse standing there with him.....and she was sad that she was going to have to wake me since she knew I had just finally been able to get to sleep.

I am going to play it by ear again this time too.
