Big pacifier problem-- please help!

DD is very attached to her pacifiers. She only gets them at bedtime and in the car, but she not only sucks on one, but she needs to have one in each hand so she can kind of rub her fingers against them to get to sleep. Tonight I grabbed one out of her crib when I was changing her crib sheet and I noticed it was torn through a little on the side. I, of course, freaked out and started looking at all of them. They are ALL like that. She's chewed through the left side. Obviously none of them were close to having the nipples torn off or anything, but she had seven pacis in her crib, all bought fairly recently, and they all had a little rip chewed into the left side.

I tossed them all, but what do I do now? She is tossing and turning in her crib right now, clearly not sleeping without it. I guess this is a definite sign we need to get her off the paci immediately. Has this happened to anyone else? The pacis she used were Nuk 6+ plus, and they were a combination of some silicone and some latex. I never thought she'd be able to chew through them...

  • DD's started getting nasty and that's when we tossed them.  It will probably be hard, but if you feel like you are ready.. just do it. Does she have another security item she can hold onto?

  • Take this as a sign to get rid of them.  Just do it cold turkey, she will be off for a few days but then she will be fine and you will be happier.

  • It's posts like this that make me glad DD just stopped using hers one day and never looked back.  Sorry that was no help

No but I've heard of other kids doing this. Good thing you got rid of them. She'll be fine & eventually get through it. We just took DD off her night bottle. Than we'll do the pacifier. Oy. Wish we didn't let it get this far. GL.

  • We are trying to do the bink bink only during sleepy time but I've noticed him sucking his finger so I think it might just be better for him to have the binkie.

    Good luck!

  • That's what happened to DD's binkies when we decided it was time to get rid of them.  She was biting right through them!  I told her to put them in the garbage which she did.  I stopped buying more and went cold turkey one night... she asked for her binky for another week or so, but I just distracted her with stories at bedtime and her toys and it seemed to work.  Unfortunatley I know it's not always this easy... good luck!
