Induction stories?
Hello all.
I'm being induced on Monday due to extremem swelling. I'm so nervous. I didn't have to be induced wtih my DD (my water broke at night). Although, I am trying all the tricks to get labor started naturally. I really hope DS comes before Monday.
But, can you send me your inductions stories? Someone told me that pitocin contractions hurt so much worse that "natural" contractions. But the way I see it...contractions hurt like hells anyways. I'm all about an epi.)
And did you progress well while on pitocon?
I'm just so nervous. I really hope he comes sooner!!!!!!!

Inductions for a 2nd time mom are different then a first time mom IMO. I was induced this time.
Here is the C&P of my birth story
My water broke early with DS #1. I had insulin controlled GD this time. I got induced at exactly 39 weeks.
I was 2cm and stretchy at 38 week appt which is the same as 37 weeks appt. I got to L&D about 6:15am. We started a slow pitocin at about 8. It didn't do much more then my body was already doing on its own for the past 6 weeks. At 9 I got my epi and about 9:20 got my water broke. I was 4cm at this time. We realized that the epi didn't take on one side at all and not all the way on the other side after 20 min. I was in hard core labor by now. Nurse went to go find epi god. During this time I was in a ton of pain. Nurse comes back and says we need to wait a few min for epi god. I am in transition by now. Nurse is telling me not to push and I am at the point of not being able to stop my body. Epi god gets in there and fixes my epi as my OB gets there. We start to push as epi kicks in. 30 min of pushing later DS was here. Total labor 2 hours 45 min.
Nathan Edward was 9lbs 4oz, 21inches and born at 11:03am on Sunday April 25th. We asked to get discharged early and left the hospital after 26 hours. We are doing great and Nathan is a BF champ.
She was 8 days early. I went to the dr. that morning and fluid levels were low so I was sent in that night for induction. At the time of appt, there was no dialation. I arrive at the hospital at 7:30 and am now dialated 1-2 cm. Weird coincidence. Dr. inserts the cervidil to loosen the cervix...no pitocin given...apparently I was going into labor and contracting all day when I thought I was just constipated! lol. Within an hour they were about 4 min apart and getting painful so I go the epidural...HEAVEN!
I sent DH home to get some sleep because I would be given pitocin in the morning and I knew it would be a long day...well I was wrong! Nurse came in because the monitor showed some action. Within an hour I was dialatd to 9. I had to call DH and tell him to come right back because my water was bulging and needed to be broken. He made it back in time and I began pushing. Four pushes and we had our little girl! It was pretty amazing and I know that for a first child it is not typical. They dr. and nurse couldn't believe it. I came home in 36 hours and felt fine, just a little sore. I had one stitch but other than that I was good. The baby is healthy and happy
I was so scared to be induced and it ended up being a great experience! I liked knowing it was happening so we had a great time the evening before, getting things ready and going out to dinner.
Pitocin was started at about 8:30 am and my son was born at 7:13 pm. I got my epidural at 11am before the contractions were painful.
I think part of the reason my induction was successful was because I was at a 3.5 the day before at my appointment, and the morning of the induction I was already at a 4. I was a week overdue and my baby hadn't dropped which is probably why I hadn't gone into labor on my own. I progressed perfectly that day. I remember them waking me from a nap to check me and I was at a 9! We watched TV, read books, I was practically live-tweeting my labor. I had to push for 90 minutes, but again - he was so high that I had to labor him down, and he ended up face up which made pushing more difficult. Not that I minded - I had very, very little pain the whole time. I began to really feel the contractions in the last few minutes of pushing but the pain felt purposeful and important, not crippling.
The baby was healthy and got 9s on his apgars.
Overall, I'd do it again and I don't regret it a bit! I know some people want to feel their contractions and go "natural" but I wanted as little pain as possible and I got it.
This is my 2nd baby and I was induced at 39 weeks. I was dialated to 2 and 50% effaced when I went in at 7:30 in the morning. They inserted Cytotek at 8:30 and by 10, I was having contractions every 1 1/2 minutes, so they had to give me meds to slow the labor. My contractions then went to 3 minutes apart. At 1:30, my OB checked me and I was dialated to almost a 4, he was going to break my water, but I was in so much pain he decied to wait until I got the epi. So, I got the epi, LOVED IT! The Dr came back and broke my water at 4:30, started the Pit at 6:30 and the epi wore off almost immediately.
The nurse went to get a "booster" bag for my epi, but when the Dr checked me again it was time to push, so I never got that booster. I pushed for 10 minutes and my 8lb 2 oz son was born at 7:46 p.m.
I don't think the contractions after Pit were any worse then the ones I had before the Pit, but thats just me. Good Luck!
check out my labor story in blog. I labored to 10 on Pit without an epi(not by choice - but doable). The really important thing w/ pit is to not start from 0. If you're not at least 3cm - discuss cervix ripening options with your OB. Less likely to need a C that way.

They started me on the the pitocin at 9:30 PM (3cm dilated) and then increased the dose at 10:30. I didn't start really feeling the contractions until 11:30 and by 12 I asked for the epi. I was only 4 cm then. I think what makes them hard to handle is that there is no progression. Once you feel them they are strong and happening every minute or so. I received the epi at 1. At 5:00 AM they broke my water and I was at 5 cm, but by 7:30 AM I was ready to push.
My experience really wasn't bad. It was under 12 hours from start to finish and I was only in pain for about an hour and half. I wish you the best of luck.
I'll give you the short version of my induction...
I had gone into pre-term labor around 34 weeks. They stopped it and everything was good. At that time I was 4 cm dilated and 80% effaced. My due date came and went. I was still 4 cm but 90% effaced. I progressed well on Pitocin. I had to stop it for a brief period of time for unrelated reasons. All in all I was on Pitocin for about 10 hours. That includes 2 hours of being 10 cm.
For me, the Pitocin contractions hurt a whole lot more than my pre-term labor contractions. I opted for an epi. I ended up needing a c-section but not for anything related to the induction. LO was having cord issues and he just wasn't going to fit. My doctor told me there was absolutely no way such a big baby was ever going to fit through my pelvis.
When I was laboring without the epidural I was annoyed with being monitored. I had a blood pressure cuff, IV, oxygen saturation monitor, fetal heart rate monitor, and contraction monitor on. Going to the bathroom was a pain in the ass because I had to unhook everything and drag the IV thing with me. While things went wrong and they didn't go the way I had planned none of that was related to the fact that I had an induction. If I had to do it all over again I would still have the induction.
I just had a great experience with induction. Checked into the hospital at 5pm the night before for cervical ripening. I don't remember the name of the pill they inserted near my cervix, but it was not cervadil. They put it in there twice, four hours apart and I was dilated to a 2 and cervix was paper thin. They started pitocin ay 8am and contractions were bearable. Dr came at 9 and broke my water. I ordered the epi then because contractions got a lot worse. It went great, I was a 5 by 1:15, 7 by 3:00 and started pushing at 4. Gabby was born at 5:06! I couldn't feel pain because of the epi and wouldn't have done it any other way.
I had high bp and swelling and was induced at 40w 2d. I was really nervous too, mostly about contractions with pitocin and if i would dilate enough. It was really a great experience. The cervical ripening was boring though! I was dilated to a 2 wiht breakable water by 1am but we couldn't start till the next morning because my dr had to do that.
