3rd Trimester

Are you going to save your maternity clothes?

I have started going through my winter maternity clothes and can't decide whether to save them or donate them.  I am so sick of them I could puke, and don't really know if I will want to wear them next time around...or if they will even be in style.

What are you going to do with your maternity clothes when you are done being pregnant?

Re: Are you going to save your maternity clothes?

  • The stuff I got for cheap will be donated and my more expensive maternity clothing will probably go to a a consignment store. I'm giving myself a gym membership so my pre-pregnancy size will be different, if we go for #2.

  • i think it depends on if you definitely plan to have another and how long you plan on waiting. if it's a few years the clothes may be outta style and you'll want new ones.

with me, i got a ton of stuff from my SIL that I used the first time and a few things that I bought and my mom bought. I kept all of it because i knew we'd be TTC #2 shortly after our first since i was 34 at the time I had DD. as luck would have it, i got pregnant the exact same month I got pg the first time, so the clothes were dead on for the seasons of my pg again. I didn't buy anything new this time at all, but i'm also of the mindset that maternity clothes are pretty much disposable clothes and a waste of $$ so I tried hard with both pregnancies to buy as little as possible.

i saved them from first pg to this one .  but decided to donate them after this pg . . we are debating on the third child, but I don't think i can look at them again for a third time and everything.
  • Alot of my stuff is designer, spendy stuff. And its alot of suits, and business skirts for work. I was gonna send it to consignment or ebay but another girlfriend of mine who just found out she is pregnant wants dibs on buying some of the stuff.

I'm definitely saving mine.  I know we want to try for #2 in a little bit, I just don't know how long.  And if #2 never happens, I will just donate everything.  I would hate to get rid of it now and then have to go out and buy this stuff all over again, especially with how expensive some maternity wear can be!

  • I saved my maternity clothes from last time and only used a few things. I carried very differently with my DD and even though I've gained more weight this time, the stuff I wore in the 3rd tri with her is hanging off of me. But mostly I just bought new stuff. I'll hang on to all of it again this time, because who knows what will fit next time.

I can totally see that if my stuff was expensive clothing.  But since I am a teacher and work with kids, most of my maternity wear came from the Gap, Target, and Old Navy.  Not exactly high quality/ designer.

I wish i had a pregnant friend to donate too, but all of my firends are either no where close, or have already had children.

what to do, what to do.....

  • I'll probably save them for awhile, loan them to a friend if possible, use them again and/or donate them to a small non-profit.
  • I'll probably save almost everything.  I splurged on a few items and made sure to keep them in good shape.  I imagine I will still be wearing some of the tanks and tees after LO gets here-they're so long and will be a little more forgiving in the midsection.  We are planning on having at least one more and it would be nice to not have to start over from scratch again.

  • If you plan on having more kids sooner rather than later, I would keep the more pricey items and items that would still be "in style" later -- jeans, basic tees, etc. Donate, sell, or give away the rest
  • I saved my maternity clothes from DS then once I was PG I just went through & decided what I liked. Most of the clothes I have bought for this pregnancy have been non maternity clothes

  • I'm going to save mine for now. I have a bad habit of saving clothes I'll never wear again anyways so I could always just add these to the collection lol.

  • I'm going to just keep everything. You never know what you will use again. Once I am done having kids, all maternity clothes I accumulate will be donated/passed on to friends/family that can use it. Most of what I have are plain sweaters, long sleeved shirts, and short sleeved shirts in all colors, so it's not like it's stuff that would go "out of style."

  • SInce this is our last pregnancy I am going to donate them.  I have kept certain pieces that I liked the most in the past and ones I thought would still be in style and comfortable.
  • As much as I want to burn and shred them I am going to keep them - at least for another year or so.  We'd like to have a second LO, but we aren't rushing into anything yet!

  • I'm keeping the basics like jeans, etc. and donating the not so basic stuff like dresses and fancy tops.
  • I saved everything from #1 and used a lot of it again this time.  I plan to save my collection from #1 and #2 for #3.  Yep, we want another! =)

  • I kept everything after DD1 but since this is our last I won't be keeping them again.  I plan to give them to my next friend that gets pregnant. We tend to rotate them around, but this time they can keep them!

  • We're done after this one so I'll be donating.

I kept everything from #1 and wore mostly the pants.  It was nice to not have to buy more pants.  I did have to buy all new shirts though.  I'd at least keep the basics.  :)

  • I kept all of my mat. clothes from DS1.  We knew we were going to try for #2 within a year after he was born.  Plus, those maternity suits I bought for work were expensive!  I've definitely gotten my money's worth with last and current pregnancy.  I bought more casual maternity clothes this time around and chose ones that I could wear after the baby and they don't look like "maternity clothes."

As for those suits.....I can't wait to burn them after this baby is born.  UGH.

  • I went with mostly basics so I am keeping almost everything.  The few things I am getting rid of are pieces I either don't like, don't fit weel, or have poor quality.
  • I've reworn a good amount of my clothes from my last pregnancy (3.5 years ago).  If you have the room, I'd keep it.  A lot of pieces I was sick of have gotten good use again this time.
  • Save them! There might be a number 2 in our future, and if so it will happen within 2-3 years max.

I probably won't wear everything next time around, I tried to get away with buying as little as possible (I hate buying clothes to begin with, so clothes that will only fit for 3-5 months aren't exactly priority for me...) so some of my favorite/most comfortable items are already looking pretty lived in, and won't last another pregnancy without looking gross.

Anything that's still in good condition once we're definitely done with babies will get given away or donated...

  • We're undecided as to whether we're having more kids, and most of my stuff is pretty basic so I'll hold on to it for a while.  If one of my friends gets pregnant in the meantime I'd probably be more than happy to pass them along though.

My friends do a "rotation" system with maternity clothes and baby clothes. We label our own clothes and pass them around to the next pregnant friend, who, in turn, adds her clothes to the pile and continues passing them around.

With baby clothes, they label the clothes with their initials and do the same.

  • I'm going to pack mine into a Rubbermaid for if/when we have a second child.  I really didn't buy that much and some of it was given to me by a friend--most of it is basics like solid color shirts and black or grey pants, jeans, a couple of hoodies.  I've just been wearing a lot of DHs shirts and my pre-preg shirts that are long enough to avoid having to spend more on maternity stuff that I don't even like.
  • I just found out my sister is newly pregnant :) so I'll be giving all of my maternity clothes to her. I can't stand to look at them either...
  • Some is likely to be kind of worn out, particularly because I plan being able to wear my maternity clothes for a couple months after the birth as well. Anything that's still in good shape I plan on keeping because DH and are are hoping to get pregnant with number about a year after DD is born.
  • I bought so few things I am keeping them.  I have literally two pairs of jeans, which are my only bottoms, and I've worn them everyday since like November.  So, they're actually wearing out already (they've been washed a lot too, clearly).

I have maybe 10 tops (short sleeve, long sleeve and sweater mixed) and.....that's it.  It's sad, actually.

  • This is our first, so I will definitely be saving mine.  I will be 31 just a few months after having DD and we want to try again way before I turn 35.
  • With #1, I donated the clothes the week after he was born. I swore up and down we were one and done. Who would think, 2.5 years later, I would change my mind and try for #2.  This time I know I am done forever and will donate them the minute I can go out and buy some transitional clothing.
