Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

I judged and then called the cops

I work at a hair salon in a very busy plaza.  A young mother came in with her daughter.  The little girl was 6.  We tell them that there is a 45 min wait and they sit down.  Well the salon was really busy and about 20 min later the little girl is running in saying "mom shes awake".  At this point I get concerned. It was almost 80 outside.  Tell me its not a child in the car.

Next thing I see is a little girl (who I later find out is 2) running across the parking lot all by herself!!  I am waiting to see the paniced mom chasing her but she is lighting a ciggerette and just standing there.  I felt sick.

Then they come in and the woman gets her hair done. You can tell the mom was on drugs.  I did not have to do her hair (I would have been afraid of shaving her bald)  but her kids are running around acting horrible.  They knock over a shelf of products, turned on the water in the shampoo bowls, pick up scissors and take off running.  the whole time the mom never looks up.  Never corrects her children.I try talking to the kids and getting them to calm down.  The mom does nothing. You can tell the 2 year old is starving for attention and the 6 year old is sick of being mom to the 2yo At this point I have had enough.  I call the cops.

I feel bad for the kids but I could no live with myself if something were to happen to the 2 little girls due to the their mothers dumb choices and I did nothing.  That dumb B!TCH does not deserve to have children.  The cops were talking to her outside after she left.  Then came in to get statements.  I have no idea what is going to happen but I hope that the girls are safe.

  • Scary. You did what you thought you should do in that situation. Poor kids, what a life they must have :(

  • I don't consider that judging. Thats making an observation and acting on it. I would have done the same thing.
  • That is not judging at all. We all know as fact how unsafe it is to leave a child in the car. It's also a dangerous situation for them to have a mother who is on drugs. You definitely did the right thing.

  • I would have called the cops just based on the fact that she left her 2 year old in the car. I hope something is done.

This makes me SO mad!!!! If you aren't smart enough to know that you don't leave a kid in the car, you are pretty much just wasting oxygen.

    In a heartbeat.

  • Good for you! Those poor little girls. I hope they get the care they deserve soon!

  • You absolutely did the right thing.
