Question for moms of two (or anyone wanting to give me advice)

Since DD weaned a month or so ago, we've been snuggling or rocking her to sleep for naps and bedtime.  DH and I both love it.  It's so sweet and some days it's the first time all day that I get to just sit and hold her (she's just so darn busy!).

But I'm torn...  On one hand, I'm extra appreciative of this snuggly quiet time (because I know in a few months that I'll have another LO who wants my time too) and I want to keep doing it for as long as I can.  On the other hand, I feel like I should use these last few months before Baby2 gets here to work on putting DD down without help.  (I think if we really tried that we could do it.  Sometimes she'll reach out for her crib and lay right down.)

Anyone been through a similar situation?  Have any advice?

  • I think you need to gauge how likely it is that you OR your husband will be available once new baby comes to do the snuggling. I think that it could be a lovely part of your DD's bedtime routine and a special time just for her where Daddy takes new baby and Mommy snuggles, the next night it could be switched. My first thought was "you need to cut that out!" but then I started thinking about how little my son snuggles now, and how when the new one comes he'll be 18 months old. I don't want to rock his world any more than necessary. So if your DD seems to really enjoy the snuggle time then I would talk to DH and just make sure that you're on the same page about making it a priority. I would make sure that she CAN go to sleep without being cuddled, that way if things are crazy and you're both needed elsewhere or one of you is out, she doesn't throw a bedtime fit.

  • We still snuggle with DD until she falls asleep. When DS was born we just took turns putting DD to bed while the other parent was with DS. It has worked out fine.
