I am a SAHM. We have a 16 month old now and he will be 20 months by the time LO2 arrives.
We are planning to have a water/home birth with a MW and we have been talking about DH taking 1-2 weeks off work to help around until we all get adjusted to the new baby being around. Is that too long/too short time?
Has anyone else had their hubby stay home with them? How did it work?
Re: 2nd Tri Repost: Paternity Leave
My DH took off 2 weeks with our baby...granted it was just one and I was so happy to have him. I am sure 2 weeks will fly and you will need him w/#2!
I hope your home birth goes well...we are hoping for one with #2...I had DD in a birthing center with midwives and loved it but really want to be home the next time.
My husband was home (he travels and when not traveling doesn't really have to go into work) at 37 weeks with my son and then took 3 weeks paid paternity leave and then another week of vacation-a total of 8 weeks. It was awesome. I had an easy birth and recovery and was really able to get back in the swing of things before he started working again. Looking back, I can't even imagine what we did all day since my son was a pretty easy baby.
This time around, he will take 6/7 weeks off depending on when I have the baby. I will definitely need more help this time since I have a young toddler.
My husband took 4 weeks off. It was our first and it was all paid so he figured why not. It turned out to be VERY good that I had him home. DS had colic and reflux...and had a slew of doctor's appointments in his first month.
With our next baby, if he's still working for the same company, he'll take 4 weeks again.
DS was supposed to take two months off - It was all paid except two weeks of it, which he used vacation for - He took those two weeks prior to my due date.
He stopped working around January 15th, with my due date being February 3rd.
I had Jackson Feb 9th. On March 10th, DH fell and broke his knee/tore his ACL. He's been off ever since and not going back until July.
We're ready to kill each other. I think 4 to 6 weeks would have been the "perfect" amount of time. One week is way too short, IMO. And the first two weeks, for me, were all a confusing, sleepless haze. 4 to 6 weeks.
