PSA: SSA top baby names list

The list for the top baby names of 2009 has been released here!

Elliot still isn't in the top 1000 for girls and Ellie only made a slight increase, but still not in the top 100.  Our top contender for this baby if it's a girl is verrrrrry close to the top 100 though.

  • Wow, I'm surprised Mia made the top 10! This is a name we'd consider...or maybe not now.

    ETA - as suspected, Ella rose in popularity to #14 (from 19 in 2008, 21 in 07 and 06).

  • I wonder if Twilight had any influence on the name list  ;)

    TTC #2 since 9/09 --- mild PCOS; Endometriosis

    IVF = sometime in 2012
  • I knew that Isabella was really popular, and that it would likely increase in popularity even more because of the Twilight craze, but I've loved the name since I was a little girl so I didn't let it deter me.  Of course, now it's number one.  Poor baby.

  • HA, I knew Olivia would be up there.  It doesn't bother me in the slightest though.  I was one of 10 billion Kelleys (well Kellys) growing up and it was never an issue.

    And man, will Jacob EVER fall from #1?

  • Preslee didn't make it in the top 1000 either:)

    Elliot was our girl choice almost our entire pregnancy! I was so excited when I saw that someone else here liked Elliot for a girl also!

  • I'm not too surprised that Alexis is still hanging in the teens. It's been there for years.

    I am surprised that Ella is #14 after Alexis though. I haven't meet any other kids named Alexis last year but I know a couple of Ella's. Same with some of the other names. I think it's just regional dependent though.

    Keep in mind that the number of children named with the top name is far less than what it was when we were kids. I think the number of Jennifers the year I was born was in the thousands (in Indiana). The number of kids named Isabella last year (in Indiana) was probably in the mid hundreds.
    There is less likely to be 5 Isabellas in one class now than 5 Jennifers in one class in 1988.

  • Looks like Oliver finally cracked the top 100 in 2009 (#98) - Elliott (or Elliot) for a boy were #350 and #297 respectively.

    Andrew dropped from the top 10 in 2008 for the first time in a long time, and it's now down to 15th!
