Mastitis?

Has anyone on here had mastitis?  I read that symptoms include fever, chills, achiness, fatigue, as well as a swollen, red and/or tender breast.

I suddenly came down with a fever last night and felt completely run down and ached all over, but my breasts are not sore and I have not noticed any swelling.  My fever is gone, but I still feel as if I'm getting over the flu.  The only thing I could think of is I might have mastitis.  Can you have a breast infection without your breast hurting or displaying any symptoms?

Re: Mastitis?

  • When I had mastitis, my breast HURT.  I couldn't carry DS on that side of my body, and I was in severe pain while feeding him.  I don't know if you can have mastitis without breast pain though.  Why do you assume it's mastitis and not just a quick fever/cold running through your body?

  • I had mastitis once and another infection a different time.  Same symptoms except for the painful breast.  I would still call the doc.

  • When I had mastitis I couldn't kick the fever for days, until I was in the ER being pumped with fluids, so since you're came and went and you don't have pain I would guess it's not mastitis. At first the fever-associated issues (chills, aches, etc.) were way more severe than any boob pain (maybe for the first 12 hours), but then the boob got more and more painful. I also noticed my supply on that side tanked. If all you had was the random fever you probably are in the clear for the boob infection.
