If you're having a c-section

What are some things you have on hand at home to be prepared?

DD was a vaginal birth and I had TONS of pads, Dermoplast, Tucks, and the Charmin wet wipes things.  This time I'm having a c-section.  I don't know what I'll need at home.  The only thing that really makes sense are pads since I won't have all of the trauma in the vag area that I did last time.

  • the charmin wet wipes were very important to me.  and extra pillows to prop yourself comfortably in bed.

  • I had an unplanned c-section last time and will be having a planned c-section this time.

The one thing I needed when I got home was a step stool to help me get into our bed, but our bed is VERY high.  With my stitches getting up into our bed would have been impossible without the step (which my wonderful husband ran out and bought as soon as I realized I couldn't get into bed when we got home).

Other than that and pads (obviously) I didn't need anything special postpartum at all.

  • I had an unplanned c-section with DS.  I would have stool softener at the ready.  The first bowel movment is a nightmare.  Other than pads, I would have a co-sleeper for the baby instead of a bassinet.  Much easier to nurse or even just check to make sure they're ok that way.  Lots of pillows to stay comfy.  And seriously...as much help as you can get.  You're sore, sometimes in a bit of pain, and it's hard to get around that first week.
  • I agree with lots of pillows to get comfy in bed. Also, it's something you CAN live without, but did make my life easier the first few weeks is one of those shower heads that come off and make it easier to wash yourself. I used Tucks last time because I had hemmorhoids, so you still may need that. Ditto on the stool softener as well, but your doctor may give you a prescription for that. GL!

  • I recovered pretty well with DD. I agree with just having pads and extra pillows to help support you and the baby.

Ditto...same for me! The transition from the "foldabe" hospital bed to my bed at home was the hardest part for me. I had several pillows in bed with me.

  • I have plenty of pillows, a step that I'm already using to get in/out of bed (our bed is high), colace and miralax (stool softener), always pads with wings and liners, wipes with witch hazel, pnp for LO- close to my side of bed, nursing gowns so that nothing rubs on my stitches, and a bamboo belly bandit.
