~~ZERO SPERM / AZOOSPERMIA CHECK IN~~This is a place for any of you who are experiencing the world of azoospermia. Whether you were recently diagnosed and are trying to make sense of it all, or you have started preparing for IVF or IUI, or have decided instead to move on to adoption. Please join in the group by posting! Check in is on Thursdays.Learning that the chances of having a biological child with your husband are slim to none is not easy, and is, frankly, devastating news. This check in is a place where we can share how we are coping (or not) with our new realities, provide information we've learned through investigating our options, adjusting our lifelong dreams and plans, and dealing with the situation. I'd like to extend an invitation to those who have been fortunate enough to experience pregnancy, childbirth, and/or adoption. Ultimately, all of us desire to create a family. The experiences and insight of those who have reached that goal will be quite helpful to those of us on that road. AZOO SUCCESS STORIES! What's your favorite muffin?
We've had another busy week! Good luck to those getting ready for IVF or IUI, and congrats again to Worms!!! And hugs to those who have had to change their plans... It's not easy.
I had my shower last weekend. It was nice to go home for the weekend and see some old friends. It was beautiful out too! Now, to finish the nursery and unpack all the stuff we got!
Questions of the Week: How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia? We moved in together in Dec 2005, and were married in April 2005. Since the time we moved in, we basically were just allowing nature to take it's course. Meaning we weren't preventing getting pregnant. Due to a house move, and some job changes, we didn't get around to going to the dr's until November 2007, when we received the dx.
What's your favorite muffin?
Right now, due to my gestational diabetes, I fantasize about just about every carb known to man. I don't think I could pick just one muffin. I love the Dunkin Donuts blueberry muffins w/the crystalized sugar on the top. Or cranberry orange muffins. Or deep dark chocolate muffins. OMG, I can't wait to have muffins again! Less than 6 weeks to go! I swear, labor doesn't seem all that daunting if it means I can follow it up w/ a couple of muffins!
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia? We started TTC in Aug 2007 (married for 2.5 years at that point) and we received the dx March 2008. I know it seems quick but my obgyn ordered tests. It sounds weird but I KNEW something was wrong and I was very correct :-( What's your favorite muffin?Lemon poppyseed!!! Actually I never met a muffin I didn't like. I rarely have them though due to the fat content. I hope you can get to have one very soon craschi!

Craschi - Only 6 more weeks - YAY!!!!! That's so exciting!
Worms - Congrats again! I am so happy for you!
QOTW:
DH and I got married in Nov.07, started trying Dec. 08, and got diagnosed Jan, 10. Honestly, I never thought it would be him! I think I am still shocked that it is him. I got diagnosed with thyroid cancer March 08, so I thought that we couldn't get pregnant because my hormones or something else was wrong with me. I would of never guessed him.
Favorite muffin - warm blueberry with butter
TTC #1 since Dec. 2008
01/10 - DH diagnosed with Azoospermia
05/10 - First Biopsy - producing sperm
08/11 - Second Biopsy..4 vials frozen
08/12 - First IVF BFN & no more vials
Don't know our next plan...
We had a follow up appt. today to go over last week's blood work and yesterday's u/s. Everything was normal. I posted an update over on GP on the Nest. If you feel like reading it, I would appreciate any knowledge or experiences you have to contribute.
I'm pleased things seem to be moving fast, we have a great Dr. that many travel far to see, and he is right here. He uses cutting edge technology and really knows a lot, he went through it. I just hate still not knowing what the issue is and if it can be resolved or if there is enough for IVF.
Questions of the Week:
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia?
We started TTC in June 2009, although I went off BCP in Feb. DH was just DX with Azoospermia on April 21st, the day before his 30th b-day.
Hello! Hope everyone is doing well! We have recently started discussing donor sperm instead of ICSI b/c of the financial aspect. If icsi fails we would be unable to try again for quite sometime and I am not sure how we could deal with that emotionally. I also just had a laparoscopy for endometriosis on Monday so we will have to wait till my post op to find out when we can proceed with icsi or donor iui. Reading the post of success gives me so much hope knowing some day that will be us!
Question of the Week:
We got married in July 2008 and began not not trying and began ttc in May of 09. Had SA in March and found out about azoospermia.
Craschi: I can't wait to see pictures of your little man!! 6 weeks!!!
Worms: So Excited to hear it is Twins!!! Congrats sweets!
Update on us: Tomorrow I have an appointment for any final tests/blood-work before dh's surgery, which is right around the corner!! Seriously, that was the quickest 6 months ever!! I am so glad I kept myself so busy because I feel like I haven't really been waiting all that long! I am assuming that my doctor will probably put me on bcp's since if they find any sperm at his mTESE we will be going right into IVF?? I am excited to get a plan.
QOTW:
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia?
We have been trying since we got married in September of 04. We weren't trying to track our timing though for the first year, more letting it happen if it happens. Then when we started trying more I started having some craziness with my periods. [I would have my period, it would stop and then start again suddenly about 3 or 4 days later and be there for 2 or 3 weeks, then stop for a week and then again for a week, then start all over again the next month. UGH!] It took my doctors a year to find out that I had a polyp in my uterus. (All the testing they did and ultrasounds didn't show it for some reason, so they thought it was stress) Needless to say, that made it difficult for us to really try for a year, so we started trying with temping and all that other stuff for about 4 months (Dec. to March 09) When I explained my situation to my midwife, she suggested getting tested because pretty much 5 years of no protection and not getting pregnant was not normal. That is when we got our DX in March of 09.
Sorry that was so long!!
What's your favorite muffin?
Chocolate Chip!!
Extended version in my blog, but:

Crashi - I bet your shower was surreal! Glad you had a good time!
Worms - TWINS! That's so exciting
Thundercats - I'm so glad time has gone quickly for you. I always think the waiting is torture.
QOTW -
DH and I started TTC in Jan '08 and got our dx March '09. I tried to initiate testing in Dec of '08 with my Ob/gyn but she wanted us to wait out the full year :P (hmmm - seems like I'm still a little resentful, doesn't it)
Chocolate - chocolate chip muffins are my favorite, but I try really hard not to eat them. Do those even count as muffins or are they just giant cupcakes?
Warning
No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
Update: Just waiting to trigger sometime in the next couple days. I am so freaking excited!
QOTW: We started ttc in August 2004 and didn't chart or use opks for about 6 mos. Who knew it would be so hard to get KU? Then my doc wanted charts for a year before he would send me to an RE. DH had his first SA in 2006 and totally shut down and refused to do anything else. It wasn't until March 2007 that we got the official azoo dx.
TTC since 8/2004
Me - DX Hashimoto's Disease, Hypothyroid, Rheumatoid Arthritis
DH - DX Azoospermia - Sertoli Cell Syndrome
DS-IUI #1-4 BFN
IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia? I went off birth control right after we got married but didn't actually try until a year later. We were hoping it would 'just happen'. It was only 3 months after we started trying that my husband mentioned something at a wellness check up with a new dr. He was the one that suggested my husband see a urologist. What's your favorite muffin? Orange cranberry! They are delicious! No update. Just waiting.
Newbaby - have hope, everything about this cycle is different, you hae frosties! I see + things in your future
Questions of the Week:
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia?
We started trying Sept. 2006 and got NOA Dx in Oct. 2007, it's been a long road.

It's been a long journey. TTC since 9/06. multiple IUI's and IVF's and 4 m/c's. IVF#3 = BFP, twins, induced at 34w6d due to baby b passing away (no explanation). Delivered on 35w1d, Baby A - baby girl, and Baby B - baby boy, our little angel.

Hi all! Nothing too new to report. DH has been going to acupuncture and has been feeling like his testosterone levels are a bit better (he's just feeling better over all.) He got a blood test done this week and we'll see the levels next week. Otherwise, we're still waiting to get into the specialist.
How
long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia? Well, it was a diagnosis of low testosterone levels that ultimately led to our azoospermia. We started TTC in January 2009. In March 2009 I finally convinced him to go to the doctor to get his testosterone levels checked. I had been begging him to go for almost a year. He was feeling tired, low libido, and having some performance issues on and off for about a year that he kept brushing off. When we finally started TTC, he went to the doctor and found his testosterone levels were VERY low. So, a urologist who claimed to be a fertility specialist, tested his SA (40 million) and put him on testopel, a testosterone supplement. We specifically asked if it would affect fertility because we were TTC and he said no. 3 months later in June 2009 is when we got the azoo dx. The doctor was like "ooops...sorry." What's your
favorite muffin? Banana Nut....yummy!
After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011! 7lbs 13oz 20 inches long ">
Checking in late, we had our boy/girl twins on 4/27, a little early 35 weeks 5 days but all is well, we are so in love with them!!
QOTW: Went off birth control after my OBGYN pronounced me fertile in Nov 08. Finally got DH to agree to a SA in very early June 09. Got Dx from infertility urologist in late June 09.

Hi ladies! Sorry about my late check-in, things have been busy around here.
I'm so excited for you Worms
Update on us: After our devestating news last week about the biopsy finding 0 sperm, we met with RE on Wednesday. It was so sad. You know it is bad when the doctor feels bad for you. Dh keeps saying that he "feels like a dead end" since he can never biologically father a child.
RE said that our best option at this point would be D-IUI. At first I was against the thought of asking DH's brother to be Donor but the more I think about it, it is the closest DH would have to a real child with his genes. What are your thoughts on a related donor? I don't think we would tell anyone IRL but I would love your input. I might even post separately just to hear your thoughts, HONEST Thoughts please
The first step is we are meeting with a reproductive counselor next weekend. Our RE says that even if we pick an anonymous donor, we need to see the R-counselor. If we use BIL as donor, we have to have his sperm quarantined for 6 months but for anonymous, we can start planning sooner once we pick out a donor. We are going to meet with the counselor and figure out what we should do next but RE told me to go back on BCP to make sure my cycles are regular.
QOTW: We got 1st 0 SA in Dec. 09 and we began trying in April of 09.
I would have to say that my favorite muffin is chocolate chip as well

QOTW -
DH and I started TTC in Jan '08 and got our dx March '09.
Update: Just waiting to trigger sometime in the next couple days. I am so freaking excited!
QOTW: We started ttc in August 2004 and didn't chart or use opks for about 6 mos. Who knew it would be so hard to get KU? Then my doc wanted charts for a year before he would send me to an RE. DH had his first SA in 2006 and totally shut down and refused to do anything else. It wasn't until March 2007 that we got the official azoo dx.
Me - DX Hashimoto's Disease, Hypothyroid, Rheumatoid Arthritis
DH - DX Azoospermia - Sertoli Cell Syndrome
DS-IUI #1-4 BFN IVF #1 - BFP! It's a boy!!!
Nothing new here, thinking about switching to another RE with better prices and published success rates.

Hi all! Nothing too new to report. DH has been going to acupuncture and has been feeling like his testosterone levels are a bit better (he's just feeling better over all.) He got a blood test done this week and we'll see the levels next week. Otherwise, we're still waiting to get into the specialist.
How long did you and DH TTC before receiving the DX of Azoospermia? The doctor was like "ooops...sorry."
What's your favorite muffin?
Banana Nut....yummy!
7lbs 13oz 20 inches long
Checking in late, we had our boy/girl twins on 4/27, a little early 35 weeks 5 days but all is well, we are so in love with them!!
QOTW: Went off birth control after my OBGYN pronounced me fertile in Nov 08. Finally got DH to agree to a SA in very early June 09. Got Dx from infertility urologist in late June 09.
Warm banana chocolate chip muffins, yummy!
