Hello - I just found out I'm pregnant and I have no idea how to go about choosing an ob/gyn. I have always just gone to PP for checkups and bc. I would like to deliver at MG Hospital. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good doctor? I'd prefer a woman.
TIA
Re: OB/GYN recs in Maple Grove/Plymouth area?
I went to the Allina clinic in Maple Grove. When I had my DS last June, the hospital wasn't open yet so my ob didn't have priviledges there obviously. Since it's not an Allina clinic, not sure if they have priviledges there or not. You could ask the scheduler person when you call for an appointment. I saw Maryam Moghaddam for all my appointments and she was nice. They have at least two other female obs there I think. Their website would say.
Since you know you want to delivery at the MG hospital, you may want to see an ob from a Fairview clinic, which I believe there is in MG, not sure about Plymouth.
Guess that wasn't too helpful. Good luck and Congrats! It's such a wonderful experience and journey! Enjoy it!
I actually went to Camden Physicians in MP, which is a family practice. I loved it and am continuing to go there (in fact, my dr. was due the day I gave birth... but she went 11 days past that).
I also delivered at the new hospital and LOVED it! It's just a really nice environment and the staff is great. I totally recommend taking classes there as well. You also get the tour of maternity with the class.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Lisa Baker with OGI - Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility. She has been named in one of the top OBGYN's in the twin cities for several years now. They have offices both in Maple Grove and Edina. I prefer the Maple Grove office and it's practically across the street from the Maple Grove Hospital.
I started seeing her when we decided to try to conceive, and unfortunately we lost that pregnancy. She was amazing though the whole process, very through and caring. When we were ready to try again, she was very supportive and reassuring, and offered us extra ultrasounds and earlier appointments to help reassure us. When we found out that we had spontaneously conceived twins, she was up to the task of managing the pregnancy. She did refer us for a consultation with a specialist, who reassured us that Dr. Baker was one of the best, and they were confident in her ability to manage my pregnancy, and consult with them as needed. Recently I learned that I have preeclampsia which is very high risk, and she is really proactive, informative, supportive, reassuring, vigilant, and smart about managing it. So, as you can tell I have quite a bit of varied experience with her. If you have any specific questions, feel free to send me a PM!
Good luck with your decision and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

Well I had planned on delivering at MG hospital, but my little girl had a mind of her own - water broke at 33w2d and MG only takes 34 and above so we went to Fairview Southdale. Not as nice but the nurses here have all been fantastic. Luckily the nurses & dr's were able to keep Lily in until 34w1d to lessen her time here at the FV Southdale NICU.
I go to Dr. Darrah at OGI and while I've been in the hospital on bed rest and in recovery, have seen almost every OGI doctor (except Dr. Marcus) when they do rounds at the hospital. They are all fantastic. Personally the ones I like other than Dr. Darrah are Dr. Rice and Dr. G (can't remember his last name) but that's just from the 5-10 minute interaction I have with them each morning. I'm sure they're all really good. Its definitely one of the most well known/respected clinics in the area.
