Appropriate age for belly button piercing?

So, my just turned 15 year old niece posted on FB that she's going to get her BB pierced.  I can't help but think she's too young, or maybe I'm just old fashioned and don't know what teenage girls are doing.  My sister, her mom, has always been pretty lenient when it comes to things like this.  It just kind of grosses me out, don't really know why.  Maybe cause I just imagine her wearing things to show it off and getting in trouble that way? 

What are your thoughts on it?

    I had mine pierced the day I turned 18- a bday gift from my bf. LOL

    I think 15 is young but I don't think it's call the cops crazy- a tattoo at that age is MUCH worse.

    i got mine at 16
    1 chemical and 1 loss at 9 weeks prior to DS
    IVF #1 1/10-transfered 2 blasts- DS born 10/2010

    Trying for # 2 since 2012.  2 failed FETS 1 failed IUI.

    I can't see myself ever giving consent for that, so it'll be 18 for our kid!    

    but I also agree that it isn't as bad as a tattoo.   you can always take it out and make it go away!

    We have kids in our school getting tats all the time at age 14+.  The worst part is most of them go to some "friends" house to have it done.  Way too young for tats, but their parents approve so who am I to say something

    I was not allowed to get my ears pierced until I was 16

    I think you should be legally an adult before piercing/tattooing any part of your body other than ears.  Whether it's true or not, body piercings imply to me that other people are seeing more of your body than your bellybutton.

    But yeah - Skimmy is right.  A tattoo is WAY worse.  My mom always told me to pierce it, not tattoo it.  She's lucky - I didn't wind up doing either!

    I was 18 so will try to make my kids wait until they can consent.  But if I suspect my kid will go get it earlier in a non-reputable place anyway, I'll take them earlier.  Harm reduction.

    I was thinking five or so... ;). I agree.. 15 seems a little young for something that seems sexualized to me...

    My kids with be over 21 for tattoos or BB piercing if I can at all help it. I was 24 when I got mine and got my first tattoo so it's not like I would be a hypocrite.
