Birthology?

Hi Ladies,

First post...here goes:

Anyone heard of Birthology? My Dr. recommended them instead of the prepared childbirth series at Hoag because to be honest, I don't really want to know too much. I'm of the "less is more" frame of mind because I'm worried that I'll freak myself out and schedule a c-section. I just need to know the important stuff. Anyone use them? How much did it cost (if you don't mind my asking)? I have googled them but I can't find a website.

Any other classes that are "must takes" for first time mom's? We are on a budget so I'm trying to be smart about what I can research online vs what classes I should take. I'm not due until Nov 6th so I have some time but my checklist says to start researching now. :)

 Thanks!

Re: Birthology?

  • I took classes here:   https://www.pacificord.com/3_0_Cord-Blood-Banking-News-Stem-Cell-Research-Info-Healthcare.php

The classes are free. The instructor is an OB nurse and she is great. I delivered at Hoag as well. I took baby care basics, childbirth prep and car seat. The baby care was the best.

I understand the less is more idea. However I met a mom through friends that gave birth a month before me at Hoag. Her and her husband did not take one class or read one book. She wished she had because she did not know what was going on during labor. In the class, I learned about picotin, when you can have your epi (and when it is too late), back labor, when they decide for a c-section...etc. All of this I think is good to know beforehand to make informed decisions. Her husband was also shocked by what went on during labor.

    Hope this helps...

  • Thanks so much for that info! I went online and signed up for most of the classes. Can't beat free! And it sounds like they are basically the same things that Hoag offers minus the hospital tour. Did they try and sell you on banking the cord blood?

    Thanks again!

  • They are very similar. I have had friends take the Hoag classes. I really liked the teacher. She also gives handouts and cheat sheets.

They do sell you on the cord blood banking. It is the last ten minutes of class, not a hard sell and you can leave if you want (a lot of people do).

  • Also it could just be me but I thought the hospital tour was a waste of time. We also got suck with a know-it-all mom-to-be that thought she knew more than the tour nurse.
  • Cool, thank you!
