r/p from 3-6 vision problems

I'm not sure that this is the correct board to post this.  Does anyone have LOs with vision problems?  We got back from the opthamologist.  My son as infant cataracts and ocular albinism.  One or both is impacting his vision development.  We go for a second opinion on Thursday, but I was hoping someone has heard of it/had experience with these diagnosis.

Let me know if this is the wrong board to post this.  Thanks.

Re: r/p from 3-6 vision problems

  • We do not have this particular condition, but Nate has some similar issues with his eyes. Besides macular hypoplasia, he has nystagmus in both eyes and strabismus. The macular is responsible for fine detail in sight and our dr. said that you usually only see it when a person also has albinism. We were told the outlook for sight is a range from 20/40 or 20/200. We are hoping for 20/40 of course! Nate also has a hearing problems.

It sucks. For some reason the sight issues our son has is the most sad for both DH and myself. He has other issues too, which we believe are all caused by 3 interstitial deletions in the p arm of his chromosome 1.

Hugs. It is a huge "wait and see" game...no pun intended!
