Cloth diapering people, I have Qs

Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers?

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry?

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot?

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do?

Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? Don't have to, but I do anyway.  It saves us from heating up the house (laundry room is on main level).

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? 19, and every other day

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot?  I do an initial cold/cold cycle with no detergent to get any "remnants" off, then do a hot/cold cycle with detergent to actually clean the diaps.

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? No.  Sorry...no help here.

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers?I only line dry when I have some staining - sunning is the way to get rid of stains in CDs.  Most of the time I just pop the inserts in the dryer and let the shells hang dry.  I use BumGenius 3.0s How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry?I have 36 BG 3.0s.  I do laundry every 2 days. Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot? I do one cycle in cold and one cycle with an extra rinse with hot.  I occasionally throw in some vinegar... Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? Sorry, can't help here, I SAH.  Do you usually have a lot of laundry?  It usually doesn't occupy much of my time.  Like, no more than 10 minutes to put the dipes in the washer, 1 minute to start the wash over on HOT, then a few minutes to pull the inserts out to put  them in the dryer and about 3 minutes to put the shells out to dry.

Yes, I don't know why but it's really hard for us to stay on top of laundry already. There's always something else to do and we have at least 6 loads a week right now not counting bedding or other "special" loads!

  • I line dry only the shells and tumble the inserts

I have 25 bum genius 3.0's and I do laundry every other day

I do one cycle in cold and one in hot

I work outside the home and don't have problems doing diaper laundry there is no folding and no sorting of the clothes.

It is way easier than I ever thought.

I line dry the covers and pocket diapers.  Prefolds and inserts go in the dryer.

I have 21 BG 3.0, 2 covers, and a dozen prefolds.  I do laundry every 2-3 days.  Just depends on the poop...I don't like poopy diapers sitting around too long.

With poopy diapers, I do an "express wash" on cold, then a regular warm wash with 2nd rinse.  Non-poopy diapers only get the second wash.

I SAHM, so can't answer that.  My 2 cycles take about 1.5 hr to wash in our HE machines and the inserts take 1 hr to dry.  Stuffing/folding takes about 10 minutes.

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers?  They will last longer if you line dry the covers but you don't have to (I dry mine in the dryer if I need them quicker)

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry?  I have about 25 and do laundry every 2-3 days

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot? I do a cold/cold without detergent, a hot/cold with 1 tbsp of detergent, and then a warm/cold without detergent

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I do work outside the home, but really diaper laundry doesn't take any time.  When I get home, the first thing I do is dump the diapers in the wash for the cold/cold cycle.  When that's done, I run down and start the next cycle.  Last cycle is usually done around 9.  If I still have enough diapers for the next day, I lay the covers out to dry and dump the inserts in the dryer.  If I don't have enough diapers for the next day I dump everything in the dryer.  When everything is dry (sometime the next day) I stuff diapers which takes about 15 minutes.  I usually stuff diapers while I'm pumping.

ETA:  A lot of the time I'll line dry the velcro diapers and tumble the snap diapers.  It's the velcro that gets really shredded in the dryer

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? ?I hang everything on one of those cheep target racks in my basement. ?Unless it is damp out, they dry within 24 hours.

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? I have 28 bum genius 3.0s and wash diapers every 2 days.

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot? I do a hot wash and a cold rinse for every load.

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I work full time and wash diapers in the evenings. Sometimes there aren't any dry or I don't have time to stuff them. On those days she just wears a few sposies. ?We always have them in the house for back up.

Almost the same for me--I have about a dozen pocket diapers and 2 dozen prefolds, and 5 covers.

    I wash every other day.

I do a cold pre-wash, then a hot wash, with an extra rinse.  On nice days I line dry, then toss the prefolds and washcloths back in the drier for about 10 minutes to help them be less crunchy.  On bad weather days, or at night, I just toss everything in the drier.

I SAH too, so I can't help you there.

See, the amount of work involved is what's putting me off. Every other day, I am home alone with DS. When I come home the first thing I do is play with DS since he's been in daycare all day and I miss him. The first chance I get to myself, I have to make and eat dinner. Sometimes I manage to watch a TV show at night. I also have to wash or at least soak all my pump parts and bottles, wash and set the coffee, exercise the dog, check my email. I don't even stay up until 9pm... I usually go to bed around 8 or 8:30.

If I'm *really* on top of things I might be able to do one load of laundry, but often enough I end up leaving it in the washer and never get to change it over, or leave it in the dryer. This two cycle wash, hang to dry stuff sounds like it would be too much for me.

  • I'm just starting with CD, but I'm surprised at how easy it is for me to get the diaper laundry done.  I hate doing any other kind of laundry because I have to sort clothes, pay attention to what can/can't go in the dryer, and then fold them and put them away.  The diapers are super easy.

Typically, right now, I'll dump them all in the washer at night just before bed, but won't turn it on.  I'll turn it on for the cold cycle either when I get up with DS for his early morning feeding (around 4:00 or 5:00) or when I get up for the day around 6:00 or 7:00.  As soon as it finishes, I just flip the knob to hot, hit the extra rinse button, and dump in some detergent.  When I get a chance, I transfer everything to the dryer.  Folding prefolds and stuffing pockets takes only a few minutes and I usually do it while DS plays on his activity mat next to me in his room.

I'm still on leave right now.  When I go back to work, I'll either do the same kind of thing while I'm getting ready in the morning.  Or, if that's not enough time, I'll dump them in the washer in the morning and not start it until I get home from work.  (I think my washer has a delayed start feature.  I need to read about that).  Once you've done the routine a few times, it's really easy.

Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? Nope ... but my lo is still in kissaluvs which are all cotton and so I dry them in the dryer. BUT we are now also using bumgenius organics which I do line dry ... I just want to preserve the quality of them. Also great to disinfect and to take care of any stains that I might have.

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? I actually have a butt load of diapers ... I really got into it ... kinda love how adorable they are. I have 24 kissaluvs, 5 sbish (2 small, 3 medium), 5 b4s, and 3 goodmamas, 25 bumgenius organics, and 10 bumgenius 3.0s. I also have about 12 prefolds and a bunch of covers. Because I have so many, I only wash once a week ... I also really only use the bumgenius organics and kissaluvs right now. Takes not time to do ...

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot?  Pre-wash on cold and wash on hot and rinse on cold

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I'm on maternity leave (6 months) but I wash early Saturday mornings or in the evenings ... it really doesn't take a lot of time.

What if you just did the trial with Jillian's Drawers...  you might be surprised at how easy it is.  I, mean, I totally hear how crunched you are for time...  Life was the same way for me once.  Laundry doesn't take too much time, but I'm totally with you in getting a load in the washer, then not changing it over, or leaving it in the dryer 'til it's all wrinkled! ;o)

Anywho, if you're not sure you're ready to make the financial commitment, maybe try the trial on the Jillian's Drawers website.  Otherwise, no harm in using 'sposies if it keeps you sane, and allows you to spend as much quality time as possible with DS!!

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? We use the GroBaby system, so I line dry the covers (actually, I just throw them over the banister in our house) and throw the inserts in the dryer. I would line dry the inserts outside to help reduce staining if I could but it's not allowed in the community we live in. :(

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? I have 12 covers, 12 boosters and 24 regular inserts. I do laundry every other day.

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot? GroBaby recommends washing everything in warm, but our washing machine has a stain treat cycle that requires you to use hot water, so that's what I usually use. I run them on a short cold cycle without any detergent before that, though.

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I work at home. But honestly, diapers are the easiest laundry ever. There's nothing to really fold, so they don't take any time really to put away.

Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? I think the only ones I have to line dry is the 2 flip covers I have. I do line dry everything to about 75% dry then throw them in the dryer to make them fluffy/soft

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? 20, every other day (so MWF and Sat so I don't have to wash on sunday)

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot?  I do a cold rinse, hot wash/cold rinse

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I work very minimally part time outside of the home (I teach spinning) and I do some work from home.

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? Nope. I just tumble dry on the gentle setting. All dipes have different care instructions, though (we use BumGenius 3.0 and LOVE them).

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? 24 diapers. Every three days generally.

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot? We do one wash in cold and then a wash in hot with two rinses.

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? Not yet, but I will soon. I imagine our nanny will help some, but really, it's very, very little additional work.

We love cloth diapering for a million reasons. I really encourage you to go for it!

  • 1. I hang diapers on the back of our dining room chairs, or over the utility sink, or on stools... I'm creative. You don't have to though it just increases the life of the PUL and aplix (if you like aplix).

    2. 12 pocket diapers, and 12 PreFolds with 4 covers, every 3 days

    3. I rinse cold, wash warm/cold, and rinse cold

    4. I work full time an hour away from home! at night right after DD goes to bed, and right before I start eating dinner is when I start laundry, and then weekends :) I'm a very busy mamma, but I like it that way.

Your day sounds like mine. I don't get to see DD on weekdays until 6 when I pick her up, I get home by 6:30 to give her her bath, feed her and then play a little before she's ready for bed by 8, then I get to eat and do laundry (on laundry night) and then in bed by 9 cause I get up at 4:30! If it's not something you REALLY want to do, then you're probably not going to find the time or have the energy, and stress yourself out... not worth it.

If you really have a strong desire to do it then go for it, it'll work out :)

  • Do you have to line dry all your diapers and/or covers? I throw everything in the dryer.  I will line dry some things once the weather gets warmer.  Prefolds should not be totally line dried, they get too rough.

How many diapers do you have and how often do you do laundry? Way more than we need.  I have 24 prefolds, 8 fitteds, 12 OS BG 3.0.  I "could" go 4 days with out washing but I was 2-3 days.

Do you have to wash everything in warm or hot?  Cold rinse first then hot wash/cold rinse cycle.

Do you work outside your home? When do you find time to wash diapers if you do? I work outside the home and when I come home I put dipes in the wash on a rinse cycle go play with the baby for a bit.  Put deterent in turn on the wash cycle and throw them in the dryer before going to bed.
