My husband and I both love the name and it sounds good with our last name even if it is in the top 10! Better to be normal than get one of these weird made up names.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

No I'm not sharing the name (but it's not any of those listed). I just think people are silly and if you really love a certain name and popularity is the ONLY reason to not pick it then that's just kind of strange and a little sad.

Wow. All I meant was I love my baby's name and I don't give a F*** if it's popular and if you want a certain name then don't let popularity be the only reason to not choose it. I've never met a Michael who seemed scarred because there were a lot of him. At least no one will ever spell it wrong or ask how to pronounce it. And don't lie and tell me you haven't heard some truly atrocious names on these sites.

You're right!! I can't believe we didn't see it before! Yes, we should all name our kids top 10 names because you say it's okay too!
(Sarcasm again.) People pick names because they like them. If it being popular is a reason they don't like it - that's their choice.
This post was beyond pointless. The Baby Names category is to make fun of stupid names and look for advice on names you are deciding not attack women for NOT choosing top 10 names.
Why won't you tell us the name? Are you worried someone will "steal" your top 10 name?
FWIW, I agree with you. I think that you should name your child what you like and that top 10 names are typically very nice. Your post is just strange because you get up on your soapbox about something so mundane and then don't even share the name you are using.
1] just because a name isn't in the top 10, 100, or even 1000, that doesn't mean it's necessarily "weird" or "made-up" [in fact, there are a lot of names i consider weird/ made-up on the SSA list]
2] even if you don't know someone who had a negative experience with growing up with a popular name, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen and isn't something to keep in mind
-it also doesn't mean that popularity isn't a reason for some to reconsider names for their children

yeah, could you define "normal" - please? "Normal" doesnt exist- because everyones idea of "normal" is DIFFERENT. Obviously, fitting in is important to you.

and to OP: I have a "made up" name and I have always loved it. your kid might hate having a popular name, might hate having a unique one. there is no way of knowing.

I'm seriously wondering what your idea of normal is.
Also, this post is beyond pointless.

My DH's name is Michael and while he isn't "scarred" he didn't want our DD to have a popular name.
I'm glad you're so sure of your opinion, no matter how rude you are in expressing it. I just can't say I feel the same way.
