Hi! I am a group fitness instructor and I'm generally very active. I was wondering if any of you fitness mamas having been doing any "jumping" type exercises during your workouts (think jumping jacks, jump squats, etc.) and if you have asked your OB about this? It seems like something I should be avoiding, but I'm not sure...
TIA

Re: Jumping during workouts
At this point in my pregnancy, and carrying 24 lbs that I normally don't have, I'm a bit leery of jumping. I'm afraid of the impact on my knees, balance, and injuries from not landing correctly.
I do a regular impact aerobics class twice a week, but at least one foot is on the ground the whole time.
I did a prenatal cert. Generally, it should be avoided because of all of the relaxin hormone in your body. It's not good for your joints. This is why I quit teaching boot camp and took a prenatal cert and started teaching a pre/postnatal class instead.
I teach Bodycombat (and taught all the way to 40 weeks). I stopped doing the jump kick about a month before that.
Just listen to your body!
I teach group fitness classes too, and am a Personal Trainer. During all of my training I've always been taught to take your level down during pregnancy. The ACOG no longer follows the "keep your heartrate under 140 beats per minute" any longer. They suggest working at a level 5 or 6. Please get clearance from your Dr first!
For me, I'm modifying all of my workouts, including the kickboxing class I teach. As an instructor you know your front row are your "super stars" so use them to show higher impact moves, and you show the lower impact moves. Always try to keep 1 foot on the floor, especially the bigger your belly grows!
Curious - what format do you teach??
