s/o mispronounced last names

The douchebag minister who married us said our last name wrong when he pronounced us "husband and wife."

He had pronounced it correctly at the rehearsal, so I thought we were in the clear.  Not so much.  There were audible gasps and moans from my H's side of the aisle.  And I still want to punch the minister in his weaselly face (not JUST for this, but still).

  • That sucks!

When my good friend got married the first time, our priest got her name right but said the wrong man's name!  He slipped and used one of her ex-boyfriend's names.  LOL

LOL - which reminds me that the minister also called my H the wrong name at the rehearsal.  My H turned to me and asked, "Who's Matt?"  I should have taken that as a warning.
  • Wow hippo, it's not like you have a hard name to pronounce.

I was so happy to get married b/c EVERYONE got my maiden name wrong. No one messes up on my new last name unless they're clearly illiterate.

  • Ours was pronounced correctly, but my BIL did our ceremony.

We had it spelled phonetically in giant red letters on the sheet for the band, and also had in giant letters how not to say it.  Fortunately, they said it correctly.  I would have been furious if they got it wrong.

Oh, and sometimes, when we tell people our last name, they "correct" us with the wrong pronunciation.  One time we were closing out our bar at the tab, and when DH gave the bartender our name, he said, "oh, you mean [wrong pronunciation]?"

I've always wondered how to say your maiden name.

  • Only foreigners pronounce our name right. It follows standard rules of pronunciation, but our language is a farking mess. It LOOKS like another word that doesn't follow standard rules, so everyone says it like that other word.

Hense the stupid screen name. It was supposed to be saying it's Oh-zy, instead of Ah-zy. Ozy instead of Ozzy.

The first "V" is said like a "W" and the rest is phonetic.

Interesting.  I've never heard that name before.  I like it.

  • Priest messed up our name too...said the wrong one at the end.

"I'd like to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Maiden Name."

    Everyone busted up laughing.

He said it was because he looked right at my grandparents, so he had their name in his head. DH's grandma was ticked.  Lol.

  • my maiden name was always misprounced, as well as my first name..

And then I married a man who's last name is even harder then my maiden name to prounce... even though it is shorter.. people still don't say it right.. and get this.. it's a name of a well known (weird) singer

  • The minister who did my granmothers funeral kept pronouncing her name wrong.

And my maiden name was a doosey.  It often was pronounced as the leader of the Aryan nation, which is not the correct pronunciation
