I would probably expect everything except the bathing of the kids. We are lucky to use family babysitters but they have never given DS a bath and I don't remember giving kids baths from back in my babysitting days.
I haven't used a sitter, but I would expect all of that. Maybe not the bathing at Cooper's age - he can skip it. Unless there is a poop crises.
When I sat I did all of that, plus I usually did a little housework while the kids slept/napped. I kept kids for this mom who needed the help. Seriously - that place always needed to be swept, vac, laundry done, you name it.
Also, if there is a poop crises, I'd hope the sitter would presoak the dirty clothes.
Scrape dishes- depends. I expect them to be in the sink and the table wiped down but I don't get really picky about the dishes.
Leftovers- this rarely occurs but yes, I would expect that.
Clean messes- depends. I lean toward yes but 2 kids bath + bed can sometimes mean their rooms are messy when we get home b/c they're asleep in there. Bedtime is more important than toy pick up.
I don't expect the bath part. Avery loves a bath and Joseph normally does to, but I don't mind if they skip it.
Scrape dishes - I prefer they at least be in the sink, not on the table. If I grab burgers or something, I would like for the trash to at least make it to the trash.
Leftovers - it takes about 3 minutes to put food in a container and stick it in the fridge. So yes, it annoys the hell out of me when I come home 5 hours later and I have to throw 2 meals worth of leftovers away because it's been sitting on the stove.
Clean messes - I'd like the sitter to at least clean up their own mess. I.e. - if you get something out, put it up. Throw diapers in the trash. Squirt some Shout on the kid's clothes if they wore them to eat and got filthy. Otherwise, I really don't care so long as there isn't Playdough on my ceiling.

ha! I don't even put Shout on my kid's clothes if they got dirty eating!
I think my expectation would just be to clean up any mess they made -- I think that that's what I did when I was a sitter.

I am experienced live in and live out nanny, and babysitter.
It all depends. Live in and live out nanny would probably do all of the above, unless discussed otherwise. For example if you get home at 5 the kids might not be ready to get a bath. If the baby has a stinky accident and gets very dirty, anyone would expect for it to be washed off good even if it requires a full bath. Lazy person would get away with wipes( gross- by the way). It all depends what duties you are required and agreed with the nanny. Now if something is missed once here or there it should not be a problem. We are all people, and as long as your children are well taken care of clean and happy i would not bother. If that is her agrred beforehand duty and she simply does not do it, that is an issue.
As far as babysitter goes. It depends who is babysitting, and weather it is free or paid. If its free you better be happy with your children having a good time rather than weather there is food on the tray or not. If you are paying you need to discuss what you expect before hiring someone, make sure you both happy.
