3rd Trimester

37 weeks plus- keeping your patience....

So once you hit 37 weeks and you are "in the zone" how do you keep from being inpatient?   Even though I have stuff to do, and I am planing on working till my DD- and I have a hard time believing that I am actually having a baby (still doesn't seem real)- I am starting to grow restless...

any suggestions/tips?

Re: 37 weeks plus- keeping your patience....

  • I make lists/note of things that need to be done before she arrives. It helps keep me busy during the day.

Now that the necessities are done (washing clothes, putting them away, etc) I've been doing fun arts & crafts stuff to pass the time. I got wooden letters spelling out her name that I've painted, a wooden board where I've made a sign that says "Thank Heaven For Little Girls" and I'm still working on her quilt.

  • No tips except to know that the longer DD stays in there, the more she is done "baking"...at least thats what I am telling myself
  • I work a lot.  That keeps me busy & distracted.  Once I get home I am so exhausted I just want to go to bed & sleep, which also passes time well.  In the short amount of time I am awake at home nightly I do a household chore.  This pregnancy is passing VERY fast for me.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • Just take it all in stride :)

Sure you can hop on the train of bitching about every ache and pain you have or starting the "where is this baby at?!" attitude, but what good will that do you?  The last few weeks ARE uncomfortable, but not unbearable.  Hang in there, stay positive, and enjoy it while you still can!

And stay active.  Nothing is more depressing that just sitting around and watching the clock tick ;)

This.  Just because the doctor's classify 37 weeks as full term, doesn't mean it is good for the baby to come then.  The actual human gestation is 40-42 weeks.  The longer baby stays inside, the less chance of there being health issues for the baby, and the more "mature" they will be.  Baby will come when Baby is ready.

I also remind myself of the extreme lack of sleep that will hit once he is born.  As long as he is inside me, i can still get some sleep.  Once he is here, it is a whole different ball game.

This, exactly.  Sometimes I get restless because I've been in a lot of pain (sciatica, disc out of place in my spine), but aside from that discomfort, I feel like it has flown by.

  • I still have things to do- but now that dr. has suggested not being on my feet as much (thanks to pitted edema) I am a little stir crazy... I want to do stuff so badly, but I know that between my feet and my sad energy level it is starting to make me crazy.  To me we still have a bunch of stuff to do, but now I need DH's help... and he just doesn't see the urgency...
  • No help here either - I'm just about 38 weeks and SO ready to have this baby! I have a 3 year old and still have stuff to prep for the new LO but I don't care cuz I know first hand that I personally feel better and more human when the baby is finally on the outside! My 3 year old is too good at keeping himself entertained so I do feel like some days I'm watching the clock tick. Don't get me wrong, we are active and get out to the park daily but he likes to play at home too so that's when the day starts to drag. I'm REALLY trying to "enjoy" this because it is my last panned pregnancy for sure. BUT I never missed anything about being pregnant before so I'm just not that nostalgic about this one either. Sorry to drone on here I just feel your pain and want to MOVE ON!
  • Once the nursery was done and the house was clean, I started to get really bored.  DH suggested I make a list of things I always wanted to do or probably wouldn't be able to do once LO arrived....things like go to a matinee movie, books I've been meaning to read, trying out the new indie coffee house downtown, learning how to use my new camera, making a new complicated receipe, etc.  Every day I pick one and do it.  It gives me something to look forward to.

  • I know what you mean. Even though I want my LO to stay as long as he wants, it does make me restless knowing that he really could come at any second, and that it would be ok. That's what changed for me once I hit 37 weeks.

Just remember that most babies are delivered in the week surrounding the due date. So think of it as your LO will not be here until at least the week of your due date. Maybe that will help you concentrate for the next few weeks, lol. Good luck with that!

My LO has been measuring big and I have my 39 week u/s Tuesday... if he's measuring over 9lbs, we will discuss induction. Though I would prefer an all natural birth, I understand why my doc would recommend the induction. This helps my anxiety a little since I know my odds of going past my due date are slim!

    This is a great idea!

  • I still have a ton of stuff to do, so I'm not that anxious yet.  Things that keep me from being impatient include:

    -Fear of giving birth...

-The sheer panic knowing soon I'll have to take care of a little baby

-The fact that we don't have a name yet

-Enjoying my last few days of relative freedom/sleep/laziness, etc

  • I am impatient some days, but most days I remind myself that it's best for him to keep cooking and it's much easier to take care of him on the inside than it will be when he's an outside baby Wink  Plus we have big plans this weekend, so it's been nice to have something else to look forward to.
  • Im working on craft projects for the baby. My last one was painting a bank. My next one is fixing the book shelves.

  • I have a baby quilt to finish, and my bathroom contractor hasn't finished the job yet.  I want those things done, but I'm also secretly hoping that this post will jinx me and labor will start.

  • I don't have any suggestions or tips for you - I'm by nature a very impatient person.  I feel like time has come to a standstill and I'm slowly losing my mind.  I'm still at work, but after training my stand-in all morning and up until a few minutes ago, now I've got nothing to do.  Tomorrow's my last day.  I don't know what I'm going to do next week if she's not here by then.  I do have a short list of things I'd like to get done before she gets here, but they could literally be done in a day.
