Here where we live, we've been advised by the L&D nurse to pack two bags for DH and I, and one bag for Bug.
At pre-reg on monday, they advised us that they provide an infant gown and 6 diapers...that's it, other than obviously a gown for me and hospital linens.
SO! since I was asked what's in my bag...here goes!
L&D Bag
Stuff for C:
tshirt, swim trunks, underwear (2), socks
Stuff for me:
tshirt, sports bra, socks, underwear, swim suit
Comfort items: iPod, Wembley, LOST Season 4, Gangs of New York, tennis ball
Other stuff: video camera and charger, blackberries (not in the bag yet but will be) and charger, camera and charger, toilettries, fluffy towel
Postpartum Bag:
sweatshirt, yoga pants, two tanks, socks, underwear, another towel, slippers, long sleeved shirt
Bug's bag is "packed" but not in the bag that I want it to be in yet.
10-12 diapers, 2 size 0-3mo white onesies, warm knitted blanket, three receiving blankets, HABS toque and going home outfit (onesie and slippers), socks, warmer going home outfit with pants in case its cold.
Re: L&D and Pospatrum Bags
Wait a second... they told you they would provide 6 diapers and that's it? That is INSANE. I would not pack any diapers and plan on using whatever they have available. They can't "limit" your new babies diapers. Umm, that's what insurance is for.
Clean them out, sister. Seriously. Don't spend your own money already!

My BFP Chart
My DD didn't fit into the 0-3 months clothes during the first few weeks. I listened to all the warnings about not getting a bunch of NB clothes, and then had to run out when DD was less than a week old to buy several NB sleepers.
She also went through 10 to 12 diapers a day once we were home from the hospital, but I have no idea how many were used during the hospital stay. DH changed all the diapers in honor of my c/s recovery. I've more than made up for it over the past 18 months.

I know that there are only 6-10 diapers in our room, but when we need more we've been told to ask.
These be the cutbacks in Canadian health care. Our hospital doesn't even provide a hat for baby anymore, let alone diapers or pads for mom!
My BFP Chart
she actually highlighted where it said 6 diapers, told us to bring about 10 more since in the first 24 hours his diaper would be changed about 10-12 times, and to pack a full pack of Pads for me because theirs are terrible and would be uncomfortable. (I already had those packed, and I splurged on some Bath and Body Works lotion and body wash - screw the "no scent" rule! lol)
on the official list from my binder beside me:
6 diapers, towels, infant and maternal gowns, some sanitary pads, linens, washcloths, feeding supplies for bottlefeeding if this is your preferred method
Wow, I had no idea! I'm sorry

Don't get me wrong, I love our health care system for the most part, but there are certain things that piss me off. Instead of this fancy schmancy birthing centre with a flat screen TV and tub, and a private room afterward, I'd rather have diapers and blankets and essential items that my baby will need in the first 24 hrs.
I wonder what they do when ppl panic and forget to pack a bag?!
yup!! well....them's the breaks eh? I was really hoping to take some blankets home too! haha
i have the same problem trying to figure out what to pack in my bag, because here everything is provided for us, but im used to the canadian healthcare system and you have to pack EVERYTHING for baby. it was even like this 11 years go when my step mom had my brother. so its nothing new to canadians that they have to pack it. your lucky that they are supplying you with 6 diapers.
Before moving to the US 7 years ago, I lived/grew up in a country with free healthcare for everyone. And I tell you what, I'd rather have to bring my own pads and diapers for baby and actually have universal healthcare than the situation we have here.
You Canadian ladies are so fortunate. This baby is going to cost DH and I a fortune to deliver, and that is with "excellent" insurance, which costs us another fortune every month BTW. Bahhumbug. End of rant, sorry...
