FF & Reflux

my 9 week old daughter was just diagnosed with reflux, screaming as she ate, arching back, spitting up a ton.  the dr. put her on zantac, but now she is spitting up 2x's as much, just wondering how your baby responded to the zantac, also which formula are you on, maybe that's the problem, as he did not change her formula too....we started out with Similac Adv., then the dr. switched us to Similac Sensitive, and now after 3 weeks of the sensitive he prescribed zantac

Re: FF & Reflux

  • DS has silent reflux, so no spit up. He did respond well to Zantac when he started at 5 weeks, but needed the dosage upped a few weeks later. A few weeks after that, he was getting bad again, so the pedi recommended (for the 3rd time) that we add rice cereal to his bottle. We did and it worked really well.

  • DS had reflux and was on Zantac.  He had to be put on Similac Sensitive RS.  The Sensitive RS has Rice Starch in it.  It thickens the formula when it gets to their belly to help keep it down.  You can also add rice cereal to the formula you are using to thicken it.  If you add rice cereal you will probably need y-cut nipples for his bottles.  Good Luck!  My DS was just like yours and thankfully his reflux went away at about 7 mos.
