Single Parents

I think my hormones may be out of wack today! [Vent]

So I recently found out that x-SO has spent $3000 on a girl who he just met in person for the first time on the 25th of April (they met online and he flew down to see her in Washington, he's apparently bought her jewelry, clothes, and... I don't doubt condoms...). He hasn't spent a single cent on LO and, frankly, I'm appalled by his actions.

On top of this, he's going to a concert tonight to 'rock out' and the feeling of hoping his nose would 'accidentally' get broken crossed my mind! I feel like a terrible person for thinking that but this guy had the audacity to cheat on me with three, yes three, different girls from the time I was 5 months pregnant until now! WOW good thing I left his sorry, lying, cheating a$$ in the dust...

Because of this, I've been rather amused by his 'threats' of taking custody of LO to court once she's born. If he's going to spend all his money (and $3000 is all his money, trust me) on a girl he's just met (who has a boyfriend! Forgot that part!) then you're out the door!

Am I going a little overboard here?

His mother was nice for the duration of time he and I were together, but as soon as I left him... textbook written reaction: "You're a terrible person. How could you do that to my son? He's an ANGEL!" I think I may have wet myself laughing at that one....

I think it's the same in all the states but here in Alaska the birth mother is allowed to leave the birth fathers name off the birth certificate. Now I know if I do that it means I wont receive child support (I'm on state help for prenatal medical bills) but LO needs a positive father role model in her life, not someone who flaunts his 'stuff' with other girls and deals pot...

PHEW vent over. Thanks for dealing with it! :]

Opinions are 100% welcome, of course. I would like to handle this as maturely as possible and I'm sure you women have fantastic advice! :]

  • I totally understand how you feel. My ex left me when I was 2 months pregnant because he felt that living the single life was worth more than getting a real job and taking responsibility. The time we were together I paid for everything including for the phone he was using to talk to other girls. These last 4 months he has done nothing but spend the money he is making as a bartender drinking and partying. His phone got shut off, his bank account closed, his mom constantly has to be buying him groceries and giving him money so he can take the bus and pay his bills but he is throwing weekly parties to promote his "company" and trying to appear as a big shot in front of his buddies and everyone else. I've been doing everything on my own, he has not spent a cent or even adknowledge or little girl which has caused a lot of frustration and resentment in me. (Makes me wonder where real men go??) The only thing I can tell you is that with men like them if they can be called men we are better off if they can stay far away from us and our little ones.

Please talk to a family law attorney before your child is born.  Make sure you understand all of the legal ramifications of leaving the father off the birth certificate.  If he dies, your child would not be eligible for SS benefits.  If he get employed and you lose your job at some point, LO can go on his health insurance.  There are many best/worst case scenarios to examine and you should have sound legal counsel before you make that decision.
