Help me...Feeding Schedule

Repost from 0-3

DS was eating 4oz/2hrs like clockwork...for the past week or so his eating schedule has been completely out of whack...this is what today was like:

4oz@8a

1.5oz@11:30a

4 oz@1:15p

3oz@2:30p

3oz@4:30p

2oz@6:30p

We need a better feeding schedule...I'm not sure why he has changed...I was hoping to work towards more ounces spread out not less ounces at random...

  • Do you feed on demand?

I do...a pattern seemed to out of it until about a week ago.
  • It could just be a temporary thing...like a growth spurt.  I am not sure but if you feed on demand then you just kinda got to let him call the shots.  Hopefully it's only a temporary thing and he'll get back to his normal schedule asap.

  • Thanks...he has his 2 month appointment tomorrow...I'm gonna mention it and see if they have any suggestions on how to get a schedule going.
  • I can tell you a book that Sarah (sdklrm) recommended to me and it helped a ton in getting things consistent around here.  It's called The Secret's of the Baby Whisperer.  She teaches the EASY schedule and in reality Aubrey naturally fell into it.  It's basically E(eat)A(activity)S(sleep)Y(you time).

Basically now Aubrey eats every 4 hours.  I started this when she was about PJ's age and she is still going strong.  She wakes up for the day anytime between 6 and 7am and she takes about a 2 and a half to 3 hour nap in the morning and an hour or so in the afternoon.  She goes to bed by 7:30pm at night and pretty much sleeps through the night.  When we started this schedule she went from waking every 2 hours at night to every 4 and just kept sleeping longer and longer over time.  I really liked how it made us feel like we had things under control.

Just thought I'd share my example...I hope you can find something that works for you :)

  • It sounds like a growth spurt to me!  Payton would eat less and sleep more during her spurts.

We do the EASY schedule to.  Payton still eats about every 3 hours during the day and does a couple of cluster feeds before bed and still wakes up once a night, but every baby is different and now every baby will be a great eater or a good sleeper.  And FWIW, even though she doesn't STTN, I still consider her a GREAT sleeper -- she gets 16-18 hours a day.

According to my notes, Payton ate every 2 hours during the day until she was about 4 months old.  We fed on demand and she usually clusterfed each evening from 7-10 pm until she was 3 months.

Technically Aubrey still does this too...but's it's usually either 4 or 5 am...so I don't know if I should count it as waking up in the night or not.  Also just to clarify because I reread what I wrote..when I started it Aubrey was eating every 2 hours.  She progressed over the months.  When I reread what I wrote it sounded like I only fed Aubrey every 4 hours very young.  The 4 hour thing we have been doing since she was 4 months.
