NBR Moving to Talladega

Hi ladies,

I've been referred here from some nice AL ladies since your baby board is active.

My DH got a job near Talladega, and we'll be moving there in August. We are looking to rent a pet-friendly house for a while until I find a job, and we get a feel for the different areas around there. We have been looking at Oxford/Munford and Sylacauga. Any opinions about those areas?

Also, I know employment isn't great anywhere in the country, but I will be looking for a job in public relations/marketing or maybe something else somewhat related. I'm wondering how the job market is in the Oxford/Anniston area or will I need to look more in Birmingham?

We're looking forward to coming to AL! Thanks for any help you can provide.

    I really can't recall if we have any bumpies in that area.  My only suggestion besides looking for jobs in Birmingham would be to check w/ the Honda plant and their suppliers.  The only supplier I can think of by name is Bridgewater.  They are around the Lincoln, AL area which is between Oxford and Birmingham.

     I grew up in Sylacauga, so it's kind of hard for me to look at it from an outsider's prospective. =)  I would say it's a typical Southern small town.  It's very convenient to Birmingham.  If you have questions about specific areas, feel free to ask me.

    Thanks, ladies! I appreciate the help and the warm welcome.

    Sounds like if I get a job in Birmingham, Sylacauga would be good. DH has to live within 35 miles of Talladega. We'll see what we can find. That's why I wanted to rent for a bit until we see how things fall.

    lilcrablegs...how is the traffic between Sylacauga and Birmingham?

    Highway 280 does get really crowded. I haven't driven it during rush times in a while, so someone else can probably chime in on that. On a normal day just driving to Bham, it takes about 45 minutes from Syl.
