Physical Therapy for 2 month old?

At our 2 month appointment, our pedi told us that our DS isn't turning his head to the left.  He will move his eyes, but not his neck!  She said we have to gently move it to the left or he will have to have physical therapy :(.  Has anyone else heard of this issue? TIA

  • Torticolis? DD has to do stretches with every diaper change now. She strongly favors her right side, but she does turn her head to the left just not very often and usually only when she gets to playing energetically. We were also told to double her tummy time to help keep the back of her head rounded since she was always laying on that one side of her head.

  • And also to do what ever we can with entertainment on her left side to encourage her to turn that way. I have rearranged her crib so she has to turn left to face the room and made the wall to the right plain (no decorations); I changed which direction she lays on the changing station so that she has to turn left to see me directly. I rearranged the areas where her swing, bouncer and high chair are usually located so that she turns to the left to see most of the room. And on her play mat there are more toys hanging on her left side and they are also lower and closer to her hands than the ones on her right side to try to encourage her to reach for them.
  • Thanks so much!!! Our pedi didn't suggest to double the tummy time, but we will start that!  We have to go back in 2 weeks to see if it is better. Hope your baby girl gets better too.

  • We were only doing about 45 minutes a day at the time because she still HATED tummy time but she seems to like it now. He said it would take the weight off the side/back of the head and help it to round out again because it was looking kind of egg shaped from above :-)
  • My DD has been going to PT since she was 2 months old for Torticollis. She would only look to her left. When the dr turned her head to the right it would snap back to the left. PT has been great for her. We have gone once every three weeks and do stretches 4x-6x a day. Now you can't really even tell she had any problems with the exception of the back right side of her head is still a bit angled flat.

We do a lot of tummy time and now we put toys on her left side. And when my husband and I are holding her we don't let her head lean against our bodies.

Hope you baby feels better soon.
