Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

starting daycare at 18 mnth advice & Q's

So Paige starts June 1st in a full time daycare center. I'm actually looking forward to it. She is at FILs 3 days a week and a babysitter the other 2. It will be nice to have steady routine.

They provide mats for the kids to sleep on. I need to bring a sheet/blanket or a sleeping bag. What do you have for LO?? Someone had a cute monogrammed sleeping bag.

What do you pack for lunch? I can pay for her to have it there but I'd prefer to pack it. She usually eats chix nuggets or meatballs, ham or mac-n-cheese. What are some cold things I can pack? I hate to have the teacher heating her lunch everyday.

I know have to label everything, right?

Gosh why do I feel like such a :dunce right now.

Any other general advice?

  • The mat at DS's daycare is padded and has a blanket and pillow attached I just have to launder it each week.  Get whatever you think would be fun for your daughter.

I let daycare feed my son lunch and snacks he really likes eating with the other kids and the menu is super healthy.  The only thing I do not allow is for them give him juice, so when the other kids get juice DS gets water in his sippy.

If you pack anything is fine as long as it is penut free.

If you send food yes you need to label everything with DD name and the date, you will also have to take everything home with you each day.

Recognize that it will take some time for your daughter to adjust since she is 18months old and has never gone to daycare.

  • We had to buy a napmat so I bought one at staymybaby.com; I went on the recommendation from the director who has a daughter in DD's class. It's monogrammed and she seems to like it.

For meals, she has chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, cold turkey & cheese, bagels, crackers, cut up fruit, yogurt, pancakes, french toast. They do breakfast at 830a and lunch at 1130a so I pack 2 meals. They don't mind heating up though it was recommended by another mom to have just 1 heat up item per meal to make it easier. They have such a system it's not an issue.

We label everything with labels from namebubbles.com; they have been on since last July and they stay on great. For disposable items, I just use a sharpie.

Your provider usually provides a list of items the child needs (changes of clothes, sunscreen/hats) as well as labeling needs etc. Also find out if there is refrigeration or if you need to have ice packs in the lunch as well.
