Trying to Get Pregnant

Surgery in exactly one week!

Some of you girls know I will be having surgery to remove part of my cervix.  I have known about the surgery since the end of Feb. and now FINALLY in one week I will be back on the mend and should be able to resume TTC in Aug/Sept.

I am a little nervous (going under general anesthesia) but I am looking forward to be done.

Has anyone ever had a procedure where they were put under?  I was under general when ds was born but i stayed in the hospital for 4 days so i don't know what it will be like to go home that day and go back to reality.  Are you just really tired?  feel funny?

Thanks!

  • Hey there!  Best of luck with your surgery, and speedy recovery to you!  Everyone reacts to the anesthesia differently.  I get tired pretty easily for a couple weeks after it.  My appetite, on the other hand, returns immediately!  Some people have to eat bland stuff for a few days afterwards, so stock up. :)  Good luck.
  • Sorry i have never been under....but GL and I hope everything goes as smooth as possible and you can move on to TTC in a few months..

I just had half of my thyroid removed on April 7th under general A.  Plus a breast reduction back in '04 and tonsils out when I was 7.  Last month I was able to go home the next day and while I was really tired for about three days I was fine to hang out on the couch and make lunch or dinner those days.  Just didn't feel like doing (nor would DH let me) do any housework.

I'm sure you'll do fine.  Good luck!! T&P.

  • I've had a couple outpatient surgeries where I've been put under . .  you'll feel pretty groggy for a few hours, but after that you should be ok.  Just eat light things - broth, soup, toast, etc. - for awhile.  Your stomach might be upset from the anesthesia.  Good luck with your surgery!  I hope it goes really well.

  • Hi hon!

I am glad it is finally almost time to get this behind you.  ((hugs))

The last time I went under I end up have severe nasueus when I woke up but I think that is not very common.  I was def. out of it for a little while too.

I hope you have very minimal effects from it and a speedy recovery!

I was put under for my cyst removal. I was under for about 2.5 hours due to complications during the surgery (the cyst ruptured). When I woke up I had rigors, which I guess aren't uncommon when recovering from general. Then I felt nausea .... but that was likely from the pain meds. I went home a few hours later and slept it off. I didn't have much of an appetite for a few days but that was likely more due to the lap procedure itself - not the drugs from the general.

All the best to you and speedy recovery!!!

  • I had outpatient knee surgery a couple years ago.  I was sent home with percocets, so I had no complaints, lol.  Apparently I spent the next few days sleeping or talking my butt off.  My mom said I'd never been so chatty! Stick out tongue  Hopefully you will go home with some serious pain meds and the first few days will be a blur.  GL!

I've been under twice, went home the same day both times.  In both cases, I woke up feeling really groggy and crying although I wasn't actually sad.  I just went home, slept it off, and woke up starving.

    Good luck!

  • Its been a few years, but I was lucky enough to not get any nasty side effects from it. Fatigue was about the extent of it. Good luck!
