First, I'm irritated with my Dr.'s office. I called to make an appointment Monday and can't get in for a couple weeks which is fine, but I asked them about getting lab work done and had to argue with them to have them do it. Even then they were hesitant, but I insisted because that's what my old doctor (whom I loved!) told me to do. After this back and forth crap, they called me back a couple hours later and finally agreed to have me come in for labwork.
Next, I went yesterday to have blood drawn no biggie. But I just got off the phone with the nurse to give me results and my progesterone levels are pretty low and they are calling in a prescription.
Has anyone been through this that can make me feel better? I'm afraid to google because I've found that you find all the negatives and no positives when doing that ![]()
Sorry for letting this get long, I just know you guys are full of great advice and encouragement!
Re: Please help make me feel better/vent
DO NOT GOOGLE!
I also had low progesterone levels and was on a progesteron suppository (vaginal) until the end of the 1st trimester. Frist twice a day and then once a day.
It's messy and you have to get it at a compounding pharmacy and keep it refrigerated, but other than that it's no big deal. You and the baby will be fine!
First off, its frustrating that you had to argue with them to get in for blood work.
Did she give you a number or just say it was pretty low? I was on progesterone (prometrium) for several weeks during the first tri, more as a precaution. My very good friend, however, had a history of progesterone so low that her LP was super short. So, she could have gotten pregnant a million times but never would have made it very far because of the low progesterone.
HOWEVER, with the help of prometrium, she is now 22 weeks pregnant. Your doctor must think that its going to help or else they wouldn't be prescribing it for you. It can help if your levels are a problem. Or, if you are like me, where they are just fine but the doc wants a little insurance, it doesn't hurt to take it.
All my fingers and toes are crossed for you, dear. Hang in there.
Mine were ridiculously low with DD. I was on prometrium through 13 weeks (she let me stay on an extra week because I was terrified to go off of it). No real issues other than it made me a dizzy and a mess emotionally. I will likely have to take it again with a second pg, though, as a few months ago, my levels were still low.
It worked for me and DD is here and healthy! Try not to worry too much; I know it's hard though.

Don't look it up, I did this and it made me worry more.
I've been on prometrium since week 7 I think. I am still taking it at week 13 with no problems. I know it's easier said than done (from someone with recent experience) but try to take a breath. Stressing out too much won't do you or the baby a bit of good. Good Luck to you and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!
((Hugs))
They didn't say how low the number was which is probably a good thing - that would have urged me more to google....
This is what they are giving me and it'll just be once a day at least right now. I go back for more labwork on Saturday so I should hear hopefully better news on Monday. Thanks ladies for the encouraging words! And I will NOT be visiting google anytime soon
My DH actually forbid me to use Google during the first tri. I was a maniac. So save yourself (and him) the stress.
PERFECT! Let's assume, then, that by "pretty low" she meant that its just good enough (which means its perfect). When I was getting mine tested my doc said they look for a 30. Mine was 41 and they still put me on it "just in case". I bet yours is at or above 30 and they are just being cautious, which means you have nothing to worry about!!
Nope, mine was too. It was wayyy low. But then with the prometrium, I was up near 40.

I had really low progestrone as well and that was on PIO shots. My body just does not do well with making babies and keeping it going unless I have help. I was on PIO shots for 12 weeks and it was not over much than 28ish to 40ish.
Shots suck but it is worth it to keep the pregnancy going.
Married and it feels so good!
