Houston Babies

moms of babies born in warm months

I haven't done much (ok, any) prep for this baby.  I have no idea what I need and don't need.  What kind of clothing will DC wear?  Just onesies?  Onesies and socks?  Do I need pants too?

I have muslin blankets to wrap the baby in, but other that those I have nothing set aside for this kiddo.  Can you tell I'm feeling the pressure coming down on me now?

Thank you!

  • Ollie lived in footed sleepers for awhile and then pants after that.  I personally think Houston is colder in summer - obviously not outside, but a/c is usually cranked pretty low wherever you go.  Unless you're hanging outside I'd plan on dressing the LO relatively warmly.

  • During the day, I did onesies and socks... at night, I'd do a footed sleeper or a onesie/pants/socks.  We kept the house at 72/73 at all times right after having K and she did just fine with that.  (we swaddled at first... but I'm not a swaddler so it didn't last long... probably by 1m she was in onesies/pants with a light blanket over here)

  • I think Reagan mostly hung out in onesies and the little one piece outfits. At night she gets hot and needed to be swaddled so she ended up in just a little snap shirt with her diaper and then the swaddle.

  • i agree that houston is cold inside. even i carry a sweater all summer. my fave has always been a onsie with knit pants.

i am kind of weird in that i footed things to me are pajamas and are worn to sleep in and onsies to me are not clothes. they are a shirt and need pants with them. lol. just my little quirk ;)

DD lived in just a onesie for the first several months. We don't keep our house that cold. I had a receiving blanket to put over her if we were out somewhere with freezing a/c. She slept in a t-shirt and swaddled.

I totally agree with you in theory and O never really wears onesies.  But we were hooked on footie pjs that first month or 2.  I blame DH (and my laziness).

  • onesies and socks were our dear friends as dd was born in late july. we keep our house cool at night so we would put her in sleep sacks too.
