Smoke smell

The house we are buying has a smoky smell.  The carpets have been replaced and most of the rooms repainted, but the smell lingers.  The owner passed away, so its not like the house has been ventilated very well since then.

Any tips on getting rid of it?  My mom is freaking out that she can smell it.

  • I'm sure it'll take time but I've heard that boiling lemon wedges can get rid of odors...it's worth a try

  • You can set out cups of white vinegar and it should draw the smell out...well maybe bowls since it's the whole house?

You could also get a lot of boxes of baking soda and put them everywhere in the house. Those soak up odors too.

Try burning lots of smelly candles and once you are moved in the house, spend a weekend where all the windows (and doors, if possible) are left open to air out the house.
