NBR: Our landlord is driving me nuts

We are moving out at the end of May and the owners are moving in. The home we are in is their retirement home and they sold their other home. Now that they are moving back in they want to have a ton of crap looked at, doors changed, carpets cleaned etc. The door guys came last week, right now the furnace guy is here, and the owner's wife called yesterday and was pissed because WE haven't made arrangements for the air conditioning people to come. I really do not think it is our job to make appointments for people to come check over the house and sit at home waiting for them to show up and look at what they need. My husband and I both work and I have 1 day off a week. I don't feel that I should have to spend my day off having people wandering around my house. If it was that big of a deal it should have been done when we were moving in, and if it wasn't that big of a deal then it should be able to wait for 3 weeks until they start living here.

  • yeah no... not your job. I would just simply say that you don't have the time but if they wish to have the things done you will be out of the house in 3 weeks. I HATE it when DH sets repair people to come when I am home alone I can't imagine putting up with it if my landlord was fixing the place for himself! Angry

  • I'm pretty sure there is a law against a landlord doing this.

That would so drive me crazy.

What peeves me about this post is that those things were just fine for you guys living there but not for them. I guess they are so much better than you, or at least they think they are.

You have no duty to aid their renovations, other than not bar workers from entering (and that has to be during business hours). And if the work keeps you from your home (like tenting for termites) they need to pay for comparable lodging elsewhere.
