Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Did you start LO on veggies or fruits first?

I had been told that I should start DS on veggies first because fruits are too sweet that he may not want to eat veggies after tasting fruits. However, I was reading on kellymom yesterday that breast milk is sweeter than fruits so it doesn't matter what he eats first.

What did you guys start with? I was thinking of doing sweet potatoes.

ETA: he has been on rice cereal for 1 month and has liked it.

  • We started with rice cereal, but then moved to squash and bananas.  He LOVED the squash and banana...didn't really like the cereal.

  • We will start with veggies for the reason you mentioned.

  • We skipped cereal and started with bananas.  They can be eaten raw and were easy to mash (no food processor needed) so I did those.  DH has had a dozen different veggies & fruits and I haven't found one she doesn't like.

  • we followed doctors recommendation & started with green veggies 1 at a time staying with the same food for 1 week.  Then move onto yellow veggies, then fruits.  actually..  doctor suggested meats first (something new as of January '10) but I couldn't find any 1st meats jars.

  • Sweet potatoes...they are pretty sweet and she actually likes them more than bananas, apple sauce and pears.
  • Veggies per pediatrician's recommendation.
  • We did a happy medium: sweet potatoes because they're a veggie but still a little sweet. Smile  Then went to green beans, carrots, apples, and now bananas.  Will do peas next.
  • We started on veggies first per pedi recommendations.
  • My pedi doesn't believe that.  And my DS proves it.  We officially started with a fruit and now alternate back and forth between fruit and veggie.  He loves them all the same!  And he always has prunes in the morning to help him not get so "backed up" which happened when we started baby food.
