Insurance question

I'm lost when it comes to insurance. I am enrolling through my work because as a public school teacher, they cover 95%! It's through United Healthcare, but it says there is no deductible. I pay a copay and 100% is covered. Is this good that there is no deductible?!

Re: Insurance question

  • It sounds like it would be good but I'm just as lost as you when it comes to ins. - I find it all so confusing!

  • Yes no deductible with 0% co-insurance(what you are responsible for) is very good IF the coverage is good. Be sure to check the exculsions, waiting periods, etc.

I am assuming by they cover 95%, you are only responible for 5% of the cost of your insurance.

    Correct.

I thought it was good, but I had to double check! Coverage is great, thanks!

  • That sounds awesome! through my DH's work we have the same plan.  With the co pay, I think we would only pay 150 for a pregnancy, 20 for a Dr.s visit, 75 for a surgery and everythis else to 100% covered.  It's way better than paying a deductible...if the deductible is high that is, like over a grand.
  • You may want to check if your drs. are in network.  When I checked on our IF coverage, she said we are covered 100%, if the Dr. is in network.  If not, then we're barely covered.  When I had United Healthcare with my work, they had very few local doctors that were in network.  Just something to think about.

This was one of the first things I checked on b/c that's what I was worried about. All my doctors are in-network. Although, it doesn't look like IF is even covered if I get to that point. I'm not sure if it's different if there is an "in network" provider.

that is how my insurance is with Kaiser.

I just pay a $20 copay at the door - even my surgery was only $20 - and all my IF procedures.

Yay!! Something that I can answer!! I work in the Employee Benefits field.

It sounds like your insurance is VERY good. The fact that there is no deductible means that your plan will start paying all expenses right away. For those of us with a deductible (say it's $1000), our insurance doesn't start paying until we have incurred $1000 of expenses (which for me rarely ever happends).

The only drawback with a plan like yours is that there are usually higher monthly premiums, but based on your post, you state that your company pays 95% of them, so you are one lucky lady!!
