Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Tell me about your first car.

My nephew is 16, and is getting a 2003 Sunfire as his first car.  Which is a hell of a lot nicer, respectively, than mine was.

The year was 1996.  I drove a 1988 Ford Tempo.  Manual transmission, one of the side-panels was a different shade of red than the rest of the car.  You didn't need the key in the ignition to start it, but occassionally I had to make my best friend get out, open the hood, and "jiggle the wire" on the battery, lol.

Re: Tell me about your first car.

  • It was 1999 and I got my mom's 92 Honda Civic. It was first given to my older sister, then my step-brother, so by the time I got it it wasn't in the best of shape.

It was 1999 and I had a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird.  It had a dent on the driver's side door and was touched up in various places with pink nailpolish (the car was red).  I loved it!!

  • Hah! I still drive mine! It's a 1998 white Ford Ranger with step side. It had glass packs and cherry bombs until just last year. It was super loud and totally over the top, but I love it. It's been a great truck. It's lasted me for over 10 years and still drives great!
  • I had a 1985 toyota supra lol it was sweeeeet

  • In 1999, I got a 1988 Honda Accord.  YUCK!  LOL.  But hey, it worked and was like a tank... I crashed so many times, and was fine!

My cousin who is just now 16 got THE car from Transformers... you know, the yellow camero bumble bee?  THE ACTUAL CAR THAT WAS IN THE MOVIE.  SPOILED BRAT!

  • Mazda Protege.  It was pretty new because my Dad bought it and hated it.  I used it for 139K miles!

7 years later I retired "Dimples" who had earned her name since everyone drove her and everyone managed to hit something minor with her.

  • 2003 Ford Mustang. It was awesommmmmme. I think it was the car my dad always wished he had.
  • Hahahahaa. Mine was in 1992 and it was a 1981 Chevy citation. We called it the silver bullet. It had a 2x4 holding up the seat, vinyl seats, the radio was sideways and didn't even work so I had to bring my own, I used my moms earrings to hold up the headliner and ummmmmm, I got all of my wrecks out of the way in that car. I only had to drive it for a year and then they bought me a brand new Chevy Cavalier.....

  • It was 1995 and I was driving a 1992 blue Ford Taurus. It was bare-bones and what I considered a "mom car" but, looking back, it could have been much worse!
  • A '93 2-door red Saturn with a sunroof. I had a bumpin system in it too. I loved that car. I always get a little misty-eyed when I see one on the road.

I drove an old VW bug that didn't have heat (or AC). I had to scrape the INSIDE of the windows when they froze. And my friends and I joked about having to lean when we went up hills because it had no get up and go.

  • I got my first car in 1999, and it was an '89 Toyota Camry.  It had no volume knob, so we had to attach clips to it when the radio was on.  Other than that, it ran like a champ!  That is, until I ran it into a guard rail.

  • It was 2000 and I had a red 1991 Eagle Talon. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, until the engien blew up a year later. Then I got a 1993 Honda Prelude.
  • It was 1996- I got a 1989 black Beretta. I thought it was awesome! It had a sunroof. I had my brother install a CD player. The best part- I bought one of those neon license plate things. What was I thinking!!!?? We called it the Black Beast!

  • I got a 1986 nissan pulsar...it wasn't much more than a go cart and it was a standard...when I learned to drive it I crashed through my parents garage...ooops.
  • My first car was a 1991 Audi 90  (The year was 1996).  I negotiated the deal and bought it myself.  I drove it until it died.  It was good to me, and often times looked better than it actually ran.  I found myself travelling with oil and coolant....for the times when I had to top it off.  Oh and don't let me forget that towards the end, I had to drive in flip flops because if it rained, the water would somehow drip down inside over my feet while driving..  We ended up having to part ways once I moved to NC and the a/c stopped working.....leather seats and blistering heat don't jive without a/c.  I ended up giving it away...apparently it still lives on.

  • Your nephews car is nice than mine was as well.

It was 2001, I got a 1994 Chevy Cavalier, 4 door. It pretty much looked like a box. However I LOVED it and actually kept it all through college and for a couple of years after.

  • My car was awesome! In 1998 I had a 93' Ford Aspire. It aspired to be a car! It actually was a great car even if it made me feel like I was driving a burple bubble around. It didn't go too fast but it went fast enough to get me where I needed at an appropriate speed. I had some raver friends so my car was permanently covered in glitter. The car lasted a long time even after I was hit by a boulder.
  • My first car was a 1992 light blue convertible Chrysler Le Baron. It was pretty nice actually. Excpet for the big dent in the side panel by the back tire. I eventually got it fixed though. I got it in 2002ish

That is awesome.  My husband had to drive the family hand-me-down car (also nicknamed the Silver Bullet) for a year before he could get something else.

    It was a BMW.

    That sounds nice, right?

Well, it was 1996 and it was a 1985. I don't remember the model name but it was the little boxy two-door kind. And I shared it with my twin brother. It really was a great car, despite being really old.

It was 1997 and I had an 1986 Ford Taurus that my parents bought when I was in kindergarten. We called him Jerry. I would give him hugs on the steering wheel.

It had a digital dashboard, so awesome. It had Rusty Jones rust-protector, which meant that it ended up rusting...awesome. My older brother had it before me and he put a bunch of Grateful Dead, Phish, and other bumper stickers.

It was the best first car. The day after I got my license, my car broke down. I had to learn how to take care of everything. I knew where the power steering fluid, oil, etc.. was. I am thankful I had that car.

It died 1yr later. It was a sad day.

  • It was 1995 and I got a 1989 two-tone Pontiac Grand Am with blue cloth interior.  It was blue with a silver stripe across the whole car-haha.
  • Mine was a 1973 Chevelle. I had worked for 2 years to save up for it. I loved it! It got totalled by drug dealers with no insurance, so then I bought a 1972 Nova.?

I am a classic Chevy kind of gal. ?

  • it was 2001 ..... I got a 94 Eclipse. Black, moon roof, cd player .... I thought it was great.  I bought it from a fam that was selling their 17yr olds car because she was going to college and was getting a new one ....  at times I wish I was spoiled (lol)

But it makes me appreciate all the cars I got after

  • I got my moms old rusted grey Chrysler mini van. ?The thing stalled in the street, the fabric on the roof was falling down, and made horrible smoke. I loved it. ?It fit all my friends so it was perfect. ?We called it the ghetto van.?

Back in 1997 I got a teal '91 Geo Storm.  The stereo system was worth more than the car.  It had a little problem with it sporadically turning off while I was driving which when you are in the  fast lane on a 6 lane hwy, can be rather scary.  I got rid of it back in 2002 and got a 1996 Honda Accord.

  • 1999, it was a 92 ford escort that was my mom's, that my older sister, brother, and myself all learned to drive on.  And it wasnt mine.  If I wanted to use it I would have to drop her off and pick her up at work.  Eventually I did take it over; she gott another car, and I was commuting to college everyday at that point, so she let me drive it till it died Sad.  Literally the axel broke.  Then I bought my first car.

  • When I was 16 ( I think 2003ish) I got a 1989 tan Ford Escort hatchback. The metal floors were rotted under the carpet, it could barely make up hills, but it ran decent and was only $600 bucks. I loved that car so much.
  • It was 1998, I had just turned 16 and my parents surprised me with a 1984 Honda Accord hatchbak! It was maroon... Hell yeah, it was awesome! That car went through a lot!

  • It was 1997 and I got a 1993 Pontiac grand am.  I was lucky it was in really great condition only one couple owned it before me, and was an older couple that took great care of it.
