Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

if your LO is an early riser (6am or earlier).....?

what time do they nap? DS is on a horrible schedule and I am hoping to adjust it.  he wakes up at 530am.  he has only been taking one nap and I can not get it any later than 10am.  by then he is super cranky and ready to go down.  so, naptime is 10-noon.  he usually gets cranky again by around 4pm and a cat nap then would be great, but it never happens.

so, b/c his nap ends that early, bedtime is at 630pm.  same scenario, I have tried and tried to push that back to at least 7pm but never have luck with that either.  the few times I have kept him up later than that he is too overtired and fights bedtime.  if we put him down at 630 he goes right out.

I would love his schedule overnight to be 730-630 or even 7-6am.  when he wakes up at 530 he is crying and if i leave him to see if he will go back to bed he gets hysterical.  I know he is well rested since he's gotten 11hrs of sleep so these efforts are futile anyway.

at some point will he be able to last longer in the morning or is this just his schedule and I should suck it up and deal with it? I am hoping that if I can get his nap to be 11-1 or better yet 12-2 then we will be able to get a later bedtime.

  • weekdays is different than weekends for us due to work, but DD's schedule usually goes like this...

    6 - 615 wake up

    12 - 2 / 230 nap

    8 / 830 bed

sometimes if needed she will get a nap around 930 or so for about 40 minutes. if she is tired when we get home around 530 then I will just hold her and rest for a little that usually recharges her!

Mine wake between 5-6. My schedule also needs adjusting. They dont go down for a nap til 1:30ish and I know they're overtired. I have my DD's physical therapy a few times a week in the late morning, preventing us from an earlier nap. Often, the girls catnap in the car in the am during errands. There are days where they are super grumpy by noon. They go to sleep at 7:30.

My schedule is very similar to yours. Mine gets up around 5 or 5:30 then takes a nap around 10-11 and sleeps like 2 hours. Some days he will still take a really early nap around like 9:30 and then take another one around 2. Then he goes to bed between 7:30-8:00. It doesn't seem to matter when we put him to sleep...we tried earlier for a little while but he still gets up at the same time.

I have to say, it really just happened on it's own. I tried and tried to move her back so hard, but it just never worked, until she was ready. Forever, when she moved to one nap it was as follows,

    5:30 wakeup

11 am nap- 12:30 at the very latest

    7:30 bedtime

Now thank goodness, she has moved it to:

    6 am wakeup

    12/12:30, sometimes 1- nap for 1.5-2 hours

    7:30 am- bedtime

  • Glad I am not the only one, lol.

    5-6 am wake up

    9-10pm 1hr nap

    2-3pm 1hr nap

    8pm- bed time

  • We try to make it till 11:30 when he wakes at 6am, if he wakes earlier than that then 10:30 or 11 is reasonable. I know how you feel about bedtime being so early and events being hard to plan.
