Those of you with toddlers

Are you planning on moving DD or DS to a toddler bed?

And is DD/DS using a pacifier still? When will you take it?

We are planning on moving DD into her toddler bed mid-summer (july-august) and we are going to get rid of the pacifier before the bed transition. We want her well-adjusted before baby comes. Just wanted to see what you were all doing. Thanks.

Re: Those of you with toddlers

  • We converted DD's crib to the toddler bed about a month ago and she has done great! (fallen out twice while sleeping but knows how to climb in and out for bedtime). She never gets out of bed after she wakes up-she always waits for me to get her out.

She uses a paci just for sleep. I plan on dropping that ASAP. I dont think she needs it. It helped me get her off the bottle though.

  • I don't have any plans to.  Of course, this may change if DD starts to climb out of her crib.  :)  Right now, she doesn't show any signs of doing that, but who knows what will happen in the next several months.

Oh, I didn't see your other question.  DD doesn't use a paci.  She never really took to that, not even as a newborn.

  • We are just getting a twin and putting rails on it but we won't move her until after the new baby is born and in the crib.  Since I'll be nursing, I assume the new baby will be in the PNP in our room for a little bit.  But then DD is on her own in her own room!  Hopefully she's ready by then.

We hope to start weaning from the paci around the time the new baby comes.  Right now she only gets a paci for naps and bed (or if we are in the car on long trips) so she's not really dependent on it.  Thank goodness.

  • We put DS in a toddler bed at 22 months.  My big goals by baby time is potty training (we're just started working on this), and to get rid of the bottle.  He was never a pacifier kind of kid, but he loves his ba-ba at nap and bedtime (he only drinks water from it, no milk).  Not sure how we're going to break that one, but might have him "buy" a toy with his bottles later this summer (a friend did this with pacifiers and it worked well).  Your DD might be a little young for this, though.

DD does not crawl out of her crib yet so she will be in there until she starts (or goes to college).  I like knowing where she is all night.  And DD is a paci addict.  We are slowly working on taking it away at times during the day but I don't really think it makes sense to take it away before the baby comes.  We may use the 'pacis are for the baby' approach but we'll see where we stand at that time.

  • We will probably move our toddler into a room with her brother once the baby is 3 months old and out of the basinet(spelling).

We took bottles and pacis away at one- I always say it's easier to take away earlier than later.

  • DS who is now 4 was off the pacifier at 7 months, in a toddler bed at 2 1/2. But these were things I guess you could say he decided....lol.  Wants to be a grown up, already talking about helping with the baby since he says it is his lmao!
  • DS will be moved to a toddler bed by the time DC comes along.  He'll be almost 2.5years.

He never used a paci and wasn't a thumb-sucker either- we're pretty lucky in that regard :)

  • DS's crib can be converted to a toddler bed and we will convert it whenever he starts climbing out but we are in no rush. He never used a paci so we don't need to do anything about that. DS does suck his fingers when he's tired but we don't plan on discouraging that for now, maybe when he's closer to 3.

  • We are in the process of converting DH man room into DS new room.  Sucks to be DH, oh well.  DS will be moved into his new toddler bed as soon as the room is completed.  We found one on craigslist for $10!

DS was never a paci sucker or a thumb sucker.  We did finally wean from nursing I think.

  • He will stay in the crib until he's ready for the toddler rail on it. We are buying a new crib for the new baby. He has not used a paci since around 5-6 months, but he never got hooked on it, so I'm glad we don't have to deal with weaning him off it.

ETA: Harris isn't walking or climbing yet, and he sleeps all over the crib, so even if we tried the toddler rail now, he'd be on the floor every night....and that wouldn't be fun for any of us. I think he will be fine in the crib for a very long time.

  • DS will be in his crib until he's ready for a toddler bed.  Sometime after he's 2 I'm hoping.  He'll be 21 months when LO arrives.  LO will be in a pnp until s/he get's DS's crib.

    DS never liked a pacifier.

  • DS is 22 months and is showing no signs of readiness to give up the paci or be moved from his crib. So we won't be making any major changes before the babies get here.  I feel i need to keep things as familiar as possible since we're about to turn his world upside down. :)
  • DS hasn't tried to crawl out of the crib yet.  I'm thinking we're going to get a convertible crib and move him to that mid summer.  I'm hesitant to put him in a toddler or twin bed.  With the night feedings, I'm afraid DS will wake up and simply get out of bed to see why we're up.

  • We are moving in a month, so don't want to push the Toddler bed with so much going on.  He also really likes his crib and doesn't try to climb out so we don't feel too rushed.

DS #2 will be in a bassinet with us for awhile, so it buys us time to get DS #1 transitioned (we don't plan on buying a 2nd crib).

    DS never used a paci.

  • DD started sleeping in a toddler bed around 20mos.

She hasn't used a paci since 4mos or so.

  • I'm really torn on what to do.  My husband doesn't want to buy another crib, but I"m not sure my son will be ready for a big boy bed.  He'll be 2 when this baby is born.

My son is still using his paci (just for bedtime and in the car) and I'm planning on taking it away within the next month.

  • DD loves her crib so I don't think we will take her out of it unitl she is 2.  We want to take the pacifier away at 18 mos

  • We're going to set up his "big boy room" in the next few weeks (I hope) - we're getting him a twin bed and super-cool bedding so I hope that makes the transition easier.  I am dreading it, to be honest.

And he never really took a pacifier, so I can't help you there.

  • 1st son 3 and 1/2 - out of crib at 3 years 2 months.  Off paci at 3 1/2 years.

2nd son just turned 2.  Still in crib...will remain in crib until 3.  Off paci at 2

3rd baby will be in first sons old crib while 2nd son is still in his crib.

And they went from crib to twin beds, did not use toddler beds.  (We got a seperatable bunk bed set that were twin beds our boys will use.)

  • We moved DD to a twin bed with rails right after her birthday. We dropped the paci about 2 weeks before.
  • We moved DS into a toddler bed when he was about 22-23 months, and it worked out great, the easiest sleep-based transition he's ever had. Freaking miracle. I really think part of it was the fact that he was old enough to understand and be excited about a big kid bed.

  • We are planning to convert DD's crib to a bed in the next few months.  She loves sleeping in a crib, so I feel kind of bad about this!  She hasn't used a pacifier since she was an infant.
