Prenatal vitamin help

Hey, The prenatal vitamins I take make me feel horrible.  I'm nauseated for hours any time I take them.  Do you all have suggestions on a different brand that's easier on the stomach?  Thanks

Re: Prenatal vitamin help

  • My ob suggested 3-4 flinestones, then when I couldnt get past the vitamin after taste, they suggested the gummy chewables, that did not work either. Ugh, so now I take none. Both my high risk, and my ob are okay with this, obviously they would love for me to take them, in fact she said today when I asked about it "they are more for you than your little girl" so with that said, I am not going to make myself yack everyday on those huge ones. My daughter has the hannah montana gummys, and they are pretty tastey :)

  • really?  LOL that's so funny, I'll just buy them for me and DS!  I haven't taken them for a couple of weeks now, I just can't handle it, I just try to eat much healthier.

It's true the vitamins are more for us because the baby gets first dibs on all nutrition and if you aren't taking in enough (say calcium)  you body will start pulling it from your bone stores which isn't good at all!..

So you should try and take care of yourself (eat cereal, it has alot of vitamins)  so you'll be able to take care of the baby later on.

     Thanks!

  • I use prefera, I haven't had a single problem with them.  Ask your OB about it.  Good luck and I hope you feel better!
  • Yes, I am on a calcium supplement, sorry I guess I should have added that. The ob is good with me taking her Hanna ones, ugh just not the orange please lol.
  • I take Stuart's and I haven't had any issues with them.
  • I have been taking my vitamin @ night before I go to sleep - it works fine for me I wsa having the same problem as you are - My friend from high school who has 3 kids advised me that she did this
  • My prenatals made me sick. I talked to my midwife and she said to take flinstones. I love them.
  • Before you rush out and buy new vitamins I would try taking your current ones before you go to bed. That way you will be sleeping during the hours they make you nauseous.

  • I take flinstones vitamins. I have problems swallowing big pills and it gives me more reason to take my vitamins when they taste good. Like the vitamin C chewables, they are like candy to me. Same with the flinstones! I actually look forward too them, helps me remember! lol. I also take a DHA supplement on top of it all. 2 flinstones and a DHA. Same folic acid amounts as prenatals... :)

  • People who say they sleep through nausea must be amazing sleepers.  I tried taking the vitamin at night, and more than once I have lain there for a minute or just been dozing off and then stood up suddenly to run for the bathroom to be sick.  And, more often, I just couldn't sleep because of the nausea.  I was a little prone to nausea even before I got pregnant though, I think.

I take the vitamin whenever I am feeling best during the day, but there have been many days when I have skipped it.  There are days when throwing up is just not worth it.

  • I had some issues for a little while with my prescription ones, so I started the 2 Flinstone vitamins a day and it's been working great. At my last appointment, my Doc commented how my levels were all looking great so it was obvious I was taking them regularly and it was working. We both got a laugh out of it because she had forgotten we'd switched over to the flinstone ones. :)
  • I started taking mine at night instead of the morning and that has helped a lot!

  • I take New Chapter's Perfect Prenatal and I really like them. Maybe because they are a whole-food vitamin, they will be easier on your tummy? Good luck!

  • I am confused as to why your OB's did not prescribe different ones until you were comfortable. The one that take is two in one pack...a gelcap (DHA) and a tablet that can be swallowed whole or chewed (it has a berry flavor) They are a brand name vitamin (Select OB w/DHA) but I never felt sick after taking them (even in the 1st tri, during M/S)
  • I take Isotonix its in liquid form its the only thing that works..check out Market America and search Isotonix pre natal if your interested let me know!!!!
  • I take One-A-Day prenatal vitamins and they are great. There are (2) pills and I take one with breakfast & the other with dinner. I hope you find one that works!
