Recommendations for a Boston visit w/ toddler??

Hi,

We'll be visiting Boston in mid July with DS who will be 2.5 yrs old. We plan to stay 2 days in the city then head to Hingham to our friends house for another 2 days.

Can you recommend some things to do or places to go that would be appropriate for toddlers?

We'd like to do the Duck Tour as we think DS would like that.

Aside from that, would love to get some recs. Too bad the baseball teams would be out of town so we can't catch a game.

Thanks in advance!

  • We took my 22 month old to the Boston Children's Musuem and she had a blast.

There is a great blog with alot of recommendations around New England for toddlers. It's called one mom's review.

  • yes, the Childrens Museum is a must. if your friends are local they can check with their library and probably get some passes.

the Swan boats at the Public Garden are great also.  that's the area where the ducklings statues from the  "make way for ducklings" book are.  the aquarium is also a nice day trip.

I haven't done the duck boat but I've heard its a blast!

  • In addition to the Children's Museum and Aquarium, DD always liked the Museum of Science.

  • castle island is one of our favorite places to go to on nice days.  lots of free space to run, a great playground, near enough to the airport to watch planes coming and going, and a great 'snack shack'.  we love it there!
  • We haven't tried a Duck Tour with my DD yet, but I have been pre-baby and had lots of fun.  They'll probably let him drive if he wants while you're on the river.  Some Duck Tours leave from the Museum of Science, which my DD loves, especially the discovery center which is designed for little kids.

The Swan boats in the public gardens are great, and there is also a carousel and great playground over in the commons.  (I believe the frog pond in the commons opens in July for wading as well.)

You could also rent a canoe and paddle around the Charles.
