High-Risk Pregnancy

Frustrated with PIH might be Pre-e?

I have been on bed rest for 4 weeks now due to PIH tonight pressure was 144/100 (not the worse it has been ) and I was given a prescription for medication which I was told is going to make me feel fuzzy and tired for the first week (what fun!!) I also have to have blood work to see if I have developed pre-e. ?Question is how can this be I don't have protein in my urine? Have any of you had blood work come back saying it is pre-e with no protein in your urine? Just wish I could get some straight answers from the doctors very frustrating!!! Thanks for letting me vent

Pre-e can come rather quickly so they are checking if your susceptible to it. My BP starting to climb around 23 weeks or so and then I was hosp. at 34 weeks. 2 weeks later, I was diagnosed with "superimposed pre-e" b/c the 24 hr showed borderline. I ended up being induced.

  • Hi - pree is usually a combination of symptoms, where as pregnancy induced hypertension is generally hypertension alone, which still must be managed.  Pree generally has some combo of protein in urine, high BP, headaches, sometimes upper right quadrant abdominal pain...but usually involves at least the protein and BP.  Some women present with less symptoms, but usually they have that at least...

144/100 is high - more because of the 100 than because of the 144.  Did your dr. tell you to call with a certain pressure or above?  I am to call if I am over 160 on the top or 90 on the bottom.

  • Some women never show protein in their urine that are later diagnosed with pre-e.  I was originally diagnosed with PIH.  When I was hospitalized they ran my blood every 6 hours to make sure I wasn't having decreased organ function, my urine wasn't typically showing more than a trace of protein.  A couple days before my c-section my bloodwork showed decreased liver function, by the morning of my c-section I was finally showing spilled protein in my urine.  I'd had "PIH" for weeks.

  • I had PIH from 14 weeks with DS and was medicated from that point on.  I never developed pre-e but my OB had me coming in twice a week starting at 30 weeks.  Pre-e can develop so quickly, maybe there are markers in a blood test that might tell docs what's going on sooner?

    Good luck!
