Ok - I figured that unwanted advice comes with pregnant/parenting, but holy moly ... certain people will not let up! How do you ladies deal with it? I'm not a nod and smile kind of person :x My fuse tends to be short with people who already annoy me, so when they annoy me more - eeps... they better have a force field! lol So, what's your very much wanted advice! Lol
Also, when we reach 12 weeks I wanted to start buying some diapers to stock up on. FI thinks this is a "stupid" idea, but I'd like to start now to save on cost (when I see sales, etc) and not have to worry about running out for a pack with a brand new baby. What brand do you ladies prefer? Pampers or Huggies? I'd love to ultimately go cloth, but I have really looked into it.
Thanks in advance!
Re: Diapers & unwanted advice
Thankfully, I really don't get a lot of the unwanted advice. I'm sure that might change a little once the baby is born though lol
I saw a shirt when I first got pregnant that said "Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I want your advice"
My OB actually brought this up at our first appt. he just said not to listen to people lol
As far as diapers, I waited until last week to start buying. Target had a sale so we took advantage. I bought the Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive w/o the Dry Max. Please look in to it before buying. A lot of mothers have reported that their children have gotten chemical burn type rashes because of the new Dry Max technology in the diapers. Babies are getting boils and bleeding because of this. The Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive that they have @ Target Size NB-2 do not have Dry Max. I had actually bought one pack of the NB Swaddlers with the Dry Max before reading the reports and you can definitely smell the difference. The Sensitive smells good a lotiony/powdery the Dr Max smell chemical-y. You can also find them on diapers.com just watch for the DM logo on the package.
So far I have about 70 NB diapers and 100+ Size 1. I didn't want to buy too many NB because I don't know how fast LO will grow out of them. I may buy 1 more jumbo pack and then wait and see. I'm keeping receipts JIC.

Ditto, ditto and ditto!
Some people had given me diapers as gifts before Nadia was born (I never thought to buy any myself) and my kid was so big she SKIPPED newborn diapers and went straight to size 1! I had quite a few packs of diapers I never got to use and ended up giving them away. The same when for other sizes that people gave me and she outgrew quickly. Personally, I wouldn't invest in many diapers before the baby comes...
As far as my fave- right now, I'll pretty much use Huggies or Pampers and buy what's on sale most of the time. When she was a baby- I stuck to Pampers Swaddlers! ;-)
As far as diapers, you also don't know what your baby's body will work best with. We've switched back and forth between Huggies and Pampers but it was weird - we did Newborn Pampers, size 1-2 Huggies, 3 Pampers, and now that she's in 4's we get either one that's on sale. We tried out Luvs and she broke out in a bad rash. If you really want to stock up - she was in 3's longer than any other size.
If you are thinking of doing cloth diapers, the women on the EFF board are a wealth of information. I also think TayLynn and Junehawk did them with their little ones and can maybe offer advice. I know those are a little pricey at first and you can sometimes get a good deal on ebay or craigslist - so you might want to keep your eyes open.
This! I asked a similar question when I first found out I was pregnant and most of the girls mentioned stocking up on gift cards for diapers. I thought it was a great idea!
I forgot about this tip! We need to start doing that!
ditto this. I hated Huggies newborn diapers. Now I'll use either Huggies or Pampers. I bought the dry max and haven't had a problem thus far, but I had no clue they had issues so I'm glad that was brought up!
This is a FABULOUS idea!
THIS!
Also, like other girls said, you don't know how the baby will react to the diapers. We stuck to Pampers while L was still in diapers because any other, including Huggies, gave him nasty rashers! Turns out my little one has super duper sensitive skin! We had a bunch given to us during my baby shower, but of them all, Pampers were the best.
