HoCo Pediatrician/Doula Recs

Anyone have any recs for me? We're not definitely using a doula, but thinking about it. And nearing 20 weeks, so we're starting to think about a pediatrician, too.

We see Dr. Paul Ambush in Clarksville. LOVE HIM! His wife is the nurse at the practice too. Never makes me feel rushed at my appointments and for a new mom, that is hugely important. If you'd like his info, you can PM me or message me thru FB

We see Dr. Heather Alexander in Columbia. I have been very happy with her. The practice is large but so far it has not been a problem for us. I have also heard great things about Dr. Sears in Clarksville. You def. need to get in ahead of time with her. She is not totally an alternative Dr. but I think she practices alternative medcine along with modern day.

We see Dr.Cole at Columbia Medical Practice. She is great and we've come to really like her. She has definite opinions, but only offers them when asked. We're always able to get in right away for sick visits and never have to wait too long in the office.

We see Dr Mailander at Parnes,May, and Associates in Ellicott City. We love her. She is very personable and kind. She does have certain opinions about things but she doesn't push them on you. She is encouraging no matter what path we decide to take. The best thing about the practice is that they have multiple doctors and it makes it easy to get an appointment. They also have late evening hours.

We see Dr Kopper at the Pediatric Center--it's right off 100 behind Chick fil A. We love him. They have offices there and in Catonsville.

We go to Columbia Medical Practice and are very happy. We see Joanne Flagg, who's a CNP and also a lactation consultant. We've also seen 3 of the MDs (in the hospital and then for a sick visit) and really liked them as well.

Lancaster Pediatrics in Ellicott City. Dr Lancaster is a one person office, so she is the only doctor, but she spends a lot of times with kids. Saved my daughter from needless tests and worry when her other pediatrician was sending my daughter to specialist after specialist. She is also very cool with with your doing your own research and when I bring my list of concerns she goes over every one. She is pretty laid back. Very informative on breastfeeding - which is rare in pediatricians.

We see Dr. Landrum @ The Pediatric Center. They have 8 or so docs and 2 offices, so you can always get into see someone quickly - even on weekends and even after snowpocolypse they managed to squeeze us in when DD had a ear infection, but we needed to fly. We can and do see different docs in the practice, but we have an ongoing relationship w/ our doctor which I appreciate. I like that she's mom of 3 and gives lots of advice as a mom and a doctor.

oh - BTW - there is a doula that works w/ my obs office; I forget her name now. .. but she's a Womens Capital Care.

I ended up using my friend as a doula, but is was sort of unnecessary since Ella was breech and I had a scheduled c/s.

You may want to check with the hospital about doulas. At GBMC if you have an outside doula it counts as one of your allotted visitors that can be present for delivery. (GBMC allows dad/partner +2.) However if you use one of the hospital's doulas (who you hire through the parent education office at GBMC) the doula doesn't count as one of your visitors.

We see Dr. Mckay at Parnes, May and Assoc. I love him, he gives great advice and I never feel rushed during an appt. My daughter likes him as well, she actually soesn't mind going to the doctor as long as we see him.

HIM!!! We also go to Dr. Ambush and he is one of the best in my opinion. He takes his time, he is very calm and is great with my daughter. Always makes her relaxed - even when she was going through the doctors are evil stage between 2 and 3. Now, she asks to go to the doctor (she is 3 1/2)! If we are remotely near his office she wants to go see Dr. Ambush. LOL. Also, he really listens to and respects your viewpoints on things as a parent. I've had some problems with my daughter (she runs really high fevers when she gets sick and suffers from awful eczema) and he has always gotten us in same day if needed.

He is my daughter's second pediatrician as we moved to MD from PA when she was one. For her first appointment with him he really took his time - we must have been in there an hour as he answered every last question. I really appreciated that as her pediatrician in PA always rushed us in and out.

I had to wait a while once (35 minutes after my scheduled appointment) but it didn't bother me at all as I knew that I would still get the time my daughter and I needed during our appointment.
